Housemarque's biggest post-launch drop for Saros landed on October 19, 2026. Patch 02.000.000, titled Zenith, is free for every PS5 owner of the game and pulls in two directions at once: it gives veterans a proper New Game+ mode and a scored boss rush, while handing newcomers the timing and input tools they needed from day one. Here's the short answer on what's actually in it and how to access each system.
What does the Saros Zenith update add?
The headline additions are Eclipse Layers (New Game+), Overlord Rush (boss rush with leaderboards), 20 new Carcosan Modifiers, a Crown and golden armor cosmetic system tied to difficulty, 12 collectible Visions of a King, four new accessibility settings, six new trophies, Photo Mode extras, and a batch of Artifact and Modifier balance changes.
Housemarque's stated goal was to give players who already finished Carcosa more reasons to return, without softening the game for anyone who wants the full bullet-hell experience.
Eclipse Layers: how does New Game+ work in Saros?
Eclipse Layers is Zenith's New Game+ mode. It does not unlock until you clear the main campaign. Once you do, new nodes appear on the Armor Matrix back at Passage. Activating those nodes opens the gate to the next Layer.
Before a run starts, you must build a Carcosan Modifier loadout that meets the Layer's Trial threshold. Each deeper Layer demands more Trial Modifiers in that loadout. Which Trials you pick is your call. There are 25 Trials in the full pool to build from, and certain combinations stack into something far more dangerous than either modifier alone, so stacking carelessly will punish you.
The exact Trial threshold per Layer is shown in the game UI when you open the gate. Housemarque has not published the specific numbers in the public patch notes.

Crown, golden armor, and Visions of a King
From Eclipse Layer 2 onward, Arjun wears a Crown and his armor glows gold. The Crown grows more elaborate as your Carcosan Modifier Balance rises, which is a direct visual readout of how many difficult Trials you are running.
The Crown also gates the new collectible track. Visions of a King are murals and carved messages left by an ancient Yellow King, scattered across Carcosa. There are 12 Visions total. Higher Crown levels unlock additional story text on each Vision, so seeing the full lore attached to them requires pushing your Modifier Balance higher across multiple Eclipse Layer runs.
Overlord Rush: how does the boss rush work?
Overlord Rush is accessed from the Primary Unit in Passage. It drops you into a training simulation where you race through the campaign's Overlords for score. An internet connection and a PlayStation account are required to post times to the global leaderboard.
The mode splits into three Sets:
| Set | Overlords | Approximate length |
|---|---|---|
| Incursion | 3 | About 10 minutes |
| Ascension | 3 | About 10 minutes |
| Totality | All 8 | One continuous gauntlet |
Leaderboards can be filtered by Main Weapon, so you can chase a category board with your preferred gun even if you are nowhere near the overall top. Housemarque has not published scoring formulas or death penalty details in the public notes, so treat leaderboard strategy as something to reverse-engineer once you are in the mode.
If you are still learning Overlord patterns, start with Incursion or Ascension before attempting Totality. Ten minutes is a tight window when you factor in routing and execution.
New Carcosan Modifiers: what changed?
Zenith adds 20 new Carcosan Modifiers, split evenly between Protections (easier) and Trials (harder). Half are available on your first playthrough. The other half unlock inside Eclipse Layers.
| Type | New in Zenith | Unlocks in |
|---|---|---|
| Protection | 10 | Half on first playthrough, half in Eclipse Layers |
| Trial | 10 | Half on first playthrough, half in Eclipse Layers |
Two modifiers worth understanding before you build a loadout:
- Corruption Melee Enhancement (Protection): Corruption normally builds on Arjun's armor and chips away at max Integrity when certain projectiles connect. With this modifier active, landing a melee strike consumes accumulated Corruption and converts it into a heavy damage hit. The risk stays. The answer is to close distance rather than fear the meter.
- Hostile Regeneration (Trial): Larger hostiles can be stunned with weapon fire but recover quickly. Only a melee finish actually kills them. You have to commit to melee range under fire, which changes the rhythm of every encounter that involves them.
Zenith also introduces Carcosan Modifier Mastery. Defeating hostiles while a Modifier is equipped builds Mastery for that Modifier. Hit the threshold and it is marked Mastered. The exact Mastery amounts are not listed in the public patch notes, so treat it as an in-game progress meter rather than a fixed number.
Several existing Modifiers were rebalanced. Protection: Second Chance Overlord, Protection: Overlord Restoration, and Trial: Alpha Hostile Enhancement received cost adjustments. Protection: Damage Enhancement, Protection: Corruption Reduction, and Trial: Damage Degradation received damage value changes. The new numbers are not published in the public notes, so check the in-game Modifier panel after updating.

New accessibility options: what do they actually do?
Housemarque did not reduce projectile density. The attack patterns are unchanged. What Zenith adds is a set of timing and input assists that sit on top of those patterns.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Slow Game Speed | Slows player, hostiles, and projectiles by an adjustable amount; can auto-activate in combat or toggle manually |
| Weapon Auto-fire | Fires Main and/or Power Weapon automatically when aiming at a hostile; does not handle reloads |
| Motion Sensor Aiming | Uses DualSense motion sensors to aim and control the camera |
| High Contrast Display | Highlights Arjun and hostiles with a solid color fill, a colored outline, or both |
The mistake most players make with Slow Game Speed is treating it as a cheat. It is not. The telegraphs are identical. You just get more time to read them and pick a response. Perfect reloads still require a timed button press even with Auto-fire on, so execution skill around reloading is preserved.
High Contrast Display is specifically aimed at readability in dense projectile storms. It does not change damage numbers or enemy behavior.
All four settings work alongside the existing button remapping options that were in the game at launch.
What else changed in patch 02.000.000?
Six new trophies were added, tied to Overlord Rush, Eclipse Layers, and some of the new Carcosan Modifiers. Individual trophy names and grades are not listed in the public patch notes. Check the in-game trophy list after installing the update.
Photo Mode gains two additions:
- Arjun's facial expression can now be adjusted
- Power Weapon visuals on Arjun's body can be toggled on or off
Artifact changes include new Corruption Effects, a higher maximum Artifact tier with adjusted drop conditions per tier, the ability for locked yellow containers to drop higher-tier Artifacts, and adjusted Growth Attribute amounts from Artifacts. Exact tier caps and drop rates are not published in the public notes.
Overlord Rush received two specific balance tweaks: the charging rate of Overdrive was adjusted, and the times required to earn Time Bonuses were changed.
Two bug fixes also shipped: the Modifier selection for players using Unlimited Protection Modifiers no longer resets after closing the game, and an issue where some Lucenite turned invisible during Overlord Rush was fixed.
Who should do what first?
Depending on where you are in the game, different systems are the right starting point:
- Still working through the campaign: Turn on Slow Game Speed and High Contrast Display now. They cost nothing and change nothing about the underlying challenge.
- Finished the campaign, want more story: Open Eclipse Layers, build a Trial loadout you can manage, and push toward Layer 2 to start collecting Visions.
- Want to practice Overlord patterns: Start with Incursion or Ascension in Overlord Rush before attempting Totality.
- Building toward the true ending: Eclipse Layers are part of the path. The guide to unlocking Saros's true ending has the full step-by-step breakdown.
For everything else in the game, the full Saros guides collection covers Lucenite farming, the Shattered Rise walkthrough, teleport unlocks, and more.
