Why the inventory system in Solasta II actually matters

One of the most complained-about moments in Solasta II's demo was players endlessly scrolling through a flat item list just to find a single potion. Tactical Adventures heard that feedback and shipped a proper grid-based inventory with the Early Access launch on March 12, 2026. The change sounds small, but in a game where your party of four is constantly picking up weapons, armor, scrolls, potions, and crafting ingredients, having a scannable visual layout makes a real difference to how fast you can make decisions mid-dungeon.

How does the new grid inventory work in Solasta II?

Before the grid view was added, Solasta II's inventory displayed items in a scrollable list. That worked fine when your party had a dozen items. By hour three, when you've looted three dungeon rooms and a merchant's stock, that list becomes a chore to navigate.

The grid view displays all available items simultaneously in a tile-based layout, letting you spot item types at a glance rather than reading through a wall of text. Each item occupies a slot in the grid, and you can scan the whole backpack contents without touching the scroll bar. Tactical Adventures specifically added this after watching demo players struggle to locate specific items during play sessions.

The grid view doesn't change any underlying mechanics. Weight limits, item stacking, and equipment slots all function exactly as they do in the base D&D 5e SRD 5.2 ruleset the game follows. What changes is how fast you can find what you need.

During combat, every second you spend in the inventory is a second your party isn't acting. Getting comfortable with the grid layout before a dungeon run saves real time when a fight breaks out.

What items fill your backpack fastest?

Knowing what clogs your inventory helps you decide what to drop and what to keep. Based on the equipment categories confirmed for Solasta II Early Access, here's a breakdown of item types and their general inventory impact:

The three damage types you'll encounter most (Bludgeoning, Slashing, Piercing) come from physical weapons, while magical damage types arrive through spells and enchanted items. Keeping one weapon of each physical damage type per frontline character is a reasonable baseline before you start selling.

warning
Forced March during overland travel causes exhaustion, which gives a -2 penalty to D20 rolls per exhaustion level and reduces combat movement by 5 feet per level. Don't hoard so much loot that you forget to manage your party's carry weight before a long trek.

How does the Slightly Better Inventory UI mod improve things?

Even with the official grid view, some players want more backpack space visible at once. The Slightly Better Inventory UI mod by modder Caites, available on Nexus Mods, increases the backpack grid size so more item slots are visible without scrolling. Version 1.1 (uploaded March 24, 2026) is the current release and weighs in at just 19KB, making it one of the lightest mods you can install.

Installation is manual download only, which means you drop the file into the appropriate game directory rather than using an automated manager. The mod has passed a VirusTotal scan, so it's safe to use. Eight endorsements as of late March 2026 is modest, but the mod is recent and the Solasta II modding community is still small given the game only launched into Early Access weeks ago.

danger
Solasta II is in Early Access, and Tactical Adventures has an active update roadmap. Any .pak-style mod that modifies game files can break when a patch drops. Back up your save files before installing mods, and check the Nexus Mods page after each game update to confirm compatibility.

You can track all current updates and balance changes affecting inventory and item systems on the Solasta 2 patch notes page.

What should you prioritize looting in Early Access?

With the Early Access content capping character progression at level 4 and offering roughly 10 hours of gameplay, your party won't accumulate the volume of loot you'd see in a full campaign. Still, developing good habits early matters.

Here's the practical approach after testing the Early Access content:

  • Always pick up scrolls. Your Sorcerer or Wizard can use them to extend spell options without burning prepared slots. Sell the ones your casters already know.
  • Don't hoard armor for classes that can't wear it. A Rogue like Daisy has no use for Heavy Armor. Sell it at the next merchant.
  • Crafting ingredients are worth keeping selectively. The crafting system is confirmed for a later Early Access update, so ingredients you find now may become useful when that patch arrives.
  • Quest Items have their own slot. They won't clutter the grid, so don't worry about them.
  • Check carry weight before overland travel. Exhaustion from Forced March stacks penalties fast, and walking into a random encounter at -4 to all D20 rolls because you grabbed every piece of loot in a dungeon is a painful lesson.

How does inventory connect to the broader Solasta II systems?

Solasta II runs on the 2024 SRD 5.2 ruleset, which means equipment interacts with everything from Armor Class calculations to Proficiency requirements. Equipping armor your character isn't proficient with imposes disadvantage on ability checks, saving throws using Strength or Dexterity, and attack rolls. The grid view makes it easier to spot items quickly, but you still need to check proficiency before equipping.

The Annoying Bees cantrip, returning from Solasta: Crown of the Magister, deals a guaranteed 1d4 piercing damage and imposes disadvantage on Concentration Saving Throws. It's one of the few guaranteed-damage options in the game, and having it prepared means your casters don't need to burn inventory scrolls on every encounter.

For crafting (arriving in a later update), ingredients you're collecting now will feed into recipes for potions, poisons, spell scrolls, and enchanted equipment. The crafting system requires successful skill checks against a recipe's DC, so characters with high Intelligence or relevant tool proficiencies will get more mileage from the ingredients sitting in your grid.

The Solasta 2 wiki is the best place to cross-reference item details, crafting recipes as they're added, and equipment stats as the Early Access content expands.

Inventory management by class: quick reference

Different party roles interact with the inventory differently. Here's what each of the six Early Access classes needs to prioritize:

  • Fighter: Weapons and armor take priority. Keep one backup weapon for damage type coverage.
  • Paladin: Similar to Fighter, but also track Lay on Hands charges and any holy symbol accessories.
  • Cleric: Spell components and healing consumables. Life Cleric's Disciple of Life feature makes healing items go further.
  • Sorcerer: Scrolls for spells outside your prepared list. Minimal armor needs mean accessories matter more.
  • Wizard: Scrolls are your secondary spell list. Hoard them. Sell duplicates only when gold is needed.
  • Rogue: Light armor, daggers, shortbows, and thieves' tools. The Scavenger subclass has thematic reasons to pick up everything, but be practical.
