The Jewel of Jahari is one of those optional encounters in 007 First Light that looks simple on the surface but will drain your wallet repeatedly if you try to brute-force it. Aadan's cup game in Aleph's Black Market is rigged, full stop. No amount of careful eye-tracking will help you pick the right cup. The solution is far more Bond.
What is the Jewel of Jahari?
During Chapter 4: The Past Never Dies, Bond needs to raise $100,000 to buy a seat at Bawma's auction. Aleph's Black Market is the place to grind that cash, and one of the more lucrative opportunities involves a merchant named Nirmala in the pawn shop. She wants a red ruby called the Jewel of Jahari, currently sitting in the hands of a cup game operator named Aadan.
Win the jewel, sell it to Nirmala, and you pocket $30,000 in one transaction. That's nearly a third of your auction target from a single side objective.

Q-Lens reveals hidden jewel
How to start the Jewel of Jahari quest
Before you can play the cup game, you need to speak with Nirmala in the pawn shop inside the market. Select the dialogue option "Anything I can do for you?" to pick up the objective. She'll point you toward Aadan and the jewel.
Then comes the entry fee. Aadan charges a $3,500 buy-in to play. If you're short on cash, the Black Market has soldiers carrying Cash Bundles that can be pickpocketed after a distraction. When you activate your Q-Lens, those bundles highlight in yellow, making them easy to spot before you commit to a distraction.
Pickpocketing soldiers around the market is a reliable way to cover the $3,500 entry fee without spending any mission funds. The Q-Lens highlights cash bundles in yellow, so you know exactly who to target.

Nirmala's $30,000 payout
How do you win the Jewel of Jahari cup game?
Here's the thing: you cannot win by watching the cups. Aadan's sleight of hand means the jewel will never be under the cup you tracked with your eyes, no matter how closely you followed the shuffle. Every normal guess loses.
The actual solution is to use your Q-Lens the moment Aadan finishes shuffling. On PlayStation, that's L1. On Xbox, LB. On PC, Alt. The Q-Lens scans through the cups and reveals exactly which one has the Jewel of Jahari underneath it.

Aadan's cup game stall
One important detail: you need to activate the Q-Lens before the cups stop moving, specifically while Aadan is showing you the jewel at the start. If you scan the jewel during that initial reveal, it gets highlighted in orange and you can track it through the shuffle. The jewel will always end up under the middle cup once you've properly tagged it this way.
If you skip the initial scan and only use the Q-Lens after the shuffle ends, the game won't register your scan correctly and you'll still lose even if you pick the middle cup.
Activating the Q-Lens only after the shuffle is complete does not work. You must scan the jewel while it is being shown to you at the start of the round. Miss that window and you'll need to pay the $3,500 entry fee again.
What happens after you win?
Once you hand the jewel to Nirmala, she pays you $30,000 on the spot. You can also continue talking to her for leads on other ways to raise the remaining $70,000 needed for the auction. She's a useful contact for navigating the rest of the Black Market's opportunities.
The Q-Lens is one of Bond's most versatile tools across the whole game, and this encounter is a good reminder to keep it in mind for puzzles that don't look like scanning puzzles. For a full breakdown of every gadget and how they interact with the world, the 007 First Light gadgets guide covers every Q-Branch tool in detail.
The Black Market chapter also contains several other puzzles worth knowing before you go in. The 007 First Light tips and tricks guide covers the Licence to Kill mechanic and checkpoint system, both of which are relevant if you're trying to keep a low profile while pickpocketing soldiers for the entry fee.
For everything else the game throws at you, the full 007 First Light guide collection has walkthroughs for every puzzle, code, and collectible across all chapters.
