Gold is the backbone of Crimson Desert's economy, and most players stumble through the early game without realizing how much they're leaving on the table. Between hidden mines, a fireplace heist, and a banking system that can multiply your wealth, there's a lot more depth here than the game ever bothers to explain upfront.
What are Gold Bars actually used for?
Before farming a single ore, it helps to understand why Gold Bars matter. Selling them to a vendor NPC nets you 190 Silver per bar, which sounds reasonable until you realize that's the worst possible use for them.
The real value comes from Hernand Bank (or any Bank in the major settlements of Pywel, since your account works across all of them). Opening a strongbox costs 100 Silver, and each Gold Bar you deposit counts as a 500 Silver investment. From there, you pick one of three strategies:
Medium-Risk is the play for most people. High-Risk can pay off significantly if you have surplus bars to absorb the occasional total loss, but don't gamble bars you can't afford to lose.
Your Bank account applies to every Bank in Pywel, so you don't need to return to Hernand every time you want to deposit. Any major settlement will do.
How do you find Gold Ore deposits?
Gold Ore is one of the rarest materials in the game, found only in a handful of dedicated Gold Mines. There are two main ways to uncover all their locations.
Defeat the Marni Excavator in Karin Quarry
The most direct method: head to Karin Quarry, which sits north of Rocca's Hill in the Hernand region. The Marni Excavator boss waits there, and killing it drops the Gold Vein Map, which marks 10 caves containing Gold Ore deposits on your world map. This is the fastest way to get a full picture of where to farm.
Complete the Gold Vein Research project
The second method comes from the palace of Urdavah in the desert region. The Gold Vein Research project costs 130 Silver and takes eight hours to complete. It's slower, but worth pursuing if you're already spending time in that region.
The Anvil Hill Gold Mine (confirmed location)
If you want to start mining immediately without completing either unlock method, there's a confirmed Gold Mine in the southwest of the Demeniss region at Anvil Hill. The entrance sits at the bottom of a canyon, slightly east of the Gold Ore icon on the map. A large golden boulder blocks the cave mouth; use Force Palm to destroy it and get inside.
Once inside, expect to pull 15-20 Gold Ore from a single run. Unlike most ore deposits, gold deposits can be struck 2-4 times each before they crumble into smaller pieces, so don't stop after the first hit.

How to mine Gold Ore efficiently
Two tools get the job done, and one is significantly faster than the other.
- Pickaxe: Buy one from the Provisioner's Shop in Hernand. Reliable, but slow when you're working through a full cave.
- Force Palm ability: Smashes ore deposits directly and can also clear the golden boulders that block mine entrances. Much faster for bulk farming.
- Force Current ability: Found just below Force Palm in Kliff's skill tree. This ability conducts energy through your grapple to detonate ore deposits at range, letting you gather materials without manually hitting each one.

How do you craft Gold Bars?
Before any crafting method works, you need the Gold Bar alchemical formula. Pick it up from the Spire of Insight, located directly south of Pororin Village in Hernand. Once you have it, three crafting routes open up.
Blacksmith method
The simplest option: bring your Gold Ores to any town Blacksmith and have them smelt 100 Gold Ore into 1 Gold Bar. This is the least efficient recipe in the game. Use it only as a last resort if the other methods aren't available to you yet.
Witch NPC methods
Witch NPCs offer two recipes that are considerably more material-efficient:
- Recipe 1: 3x Brimstone + 3x Mercury + 10x Silver Ore = 1x Gold Bar. Brimstone comes from Brimstone Springs; Mercury drops at Silver Wolf Mountain and Hexe Sanctuary. Silver Ore is plentiful, so this is a solid mid-game option.
- Recipe 2: 3x Gold Ore + 1x Golden Apple = 1x Gold Bar. The ore cost is low, but Golden Apples are the bottleneck. According to the in-game Knowledge database, Golden Apples can only be found by hedgehogs. Watch for a sparkle on the ground and follow it to the source.
Don't rely on the Golden Apple recipe as your primary crafting method. The drop is unpredictable and you'll hit long dry spells. Treat any Golden Apples you find as a bonus rather than a farming target.
How do you get Gold Bars without crafting?
Two early-game sources hand you a Gold Bar directly, no ore required.
The Traveling Treasure Goblin
Random encounters with the Traveling Treasure Goblin can net you a Gold Bar from the large chest he drops when bumped. The first encounter tends to happen near Greymane Camp, but subsequent sightings appear to be rare. Don't plan around this one, but grab the chest if you see him.
The Lioncrest Manor fireplace
This is the more reliable early pickup. Lioncrest Manor sits directly north of Hernand. Guards block the front entrance, but you can climb the outer walls and enter through a second-floor window if you have the steal mask equipped. Head downstairs to the ground floor, approach the fireplace, hold out your lantern, and use the Steal action prompt. Kliff pulls a Gold Bar straight from the fireplace.
While you're there, the smaller building on the manor grounds has a second-floor window entry as well. The treasure chest inside holds the Hwando two-handed weapon, which is worth grabbing on the same run.
Putting it all together
The most efficient path to a steady Gold Bar income looks like this: clear the Marni Excavator early to unlock all 10 mine locations, farm Anvil Hill using Force Current for fast ore collection, and use the Witch's Brimstone/Mercury recipe to convert your haul. Bank every bar at Medium-Risk in Hernand and let the returns compound.
The Lioncrest Manor fireplace gives you a free bar right at the start of the game, so grab that before doing anything else. For more strategies on building wealth in Crimson Desert, browse more guides covering everything from combat to resource management across Pywel.
