Butcher is now a permanent Lair Boss in Season of Slaughter, but these Necromancer minion builds let your army tank everything while you stack killstreaks and climb Pit leaderboards.

If you’ve just started Season 12 and keep getting wrecked by the new Butcher Lair mechanics or random Pit elites, I feel you. Minion Necros are straight-up carrying right now because your undead crew draws aggro, gives nonstop Unstoppable, and melts packs while you sit back and rack up those killstreaks. I already pushed with both the triple Golem and Arch Mage versions so you can skip the frustration and just climb.

Why Minion Builds Own the Post-Butcher Pit Meta

One wrong move in the Pit still means instant death, but Season 12 turned the Butcher into a constant threat across Lair Bosses and high-tier content. That is exactly why minion Necros shine here. Your army tanks the cleaves and chaos that used to delete solo players, while you focus on grouping and multipliers. Golem builds especially crush it with mini-Golems that leap at priority targets and keep you unstoppable the whole run. This setup is climbing leaderboards faster than most caster options because it scales with the new killstreak and Bloodied item buffs without needing perfect positioning every second.

The Gravebloom Triple Golem Build That Pushes Safest

This is the one I recommend first for Pit leaderboards. Gravebloom turns your single Golem into three mini-Golems that scale insanely with damage multipliers and give you Unstoppable uptime on cooldown. It feels tanky as hell and still hits like a truck once you cap crit and attack speed.

Skills and Rotation That Actually Works

Spam Golem activation the second it’s off cooldown for your main damage and unstoppable. Pull everything with Corpse Tendrils so the mini-Golems smash the cluster. Drop Bone Prison to lock bosses and multiply damage, then hit Soulrift every 8 seconds for Vulnerable, essence, and a huge multiplier. Reap keeps your attack speed buff rolling for the Golems and gives damage reduction. Decrepify is basically passive for the curse aura. The loop is group, prison, soulrift, golem spam. Let gravity and your minions solve the problem while you stay safe.

Book of the Dead and Key Uniques

Blood Golems for raw damage, Defenders for toughness if you need it, Cold Mages sacrificed for extra multipliers. Grab Gravebloom mace as your mainhand (farms from The Beast in the Ice), Blood Moon Breeches pants for Golem mastery ranks, Heir of Perdition helm for crit cap, and Shroud of False Death chest. Aspects like Fel Gluttony make Golems hit twice, Grasping Veins for Vulnerable damage, and Great Feast for cooldown reduction.

Here is the quick gear priority table so you know what to hunt first:

Cap 100% crit, 100% attack speed (summon + attack), and heavy Golem cooldown reduction. That is exactly why the last section’s rotation clicks once you hit these numbers.

The Hand of Naz Shadow Mage Variant for Faster Clears

If you want more speed and AoE instead of pure tankiness, swap to the mage army. The Hand of Naz gloves turn your Skeletal Mages into Arch Mages that teleport, shatter on impact, and hit multiple targets. Sacrifice Warriors and Golems for extra mages and huge multipliers. Rotation is similar: Corpse Tendrils to group, Soulrift on cooldown, Blight for DoT multipliers, and spam Raise Skeleton for the Priest buff. Minions pull aggro so you stay alive while the Arch Mages do trillions in damage. It is a little squishier early but clears packs faster once geared.

Use the same Paragon boards as Golem but swap glyphs to Deadraiser and Amplify first. Both builds use the same core stats and Bloodied items for killstreak bonuses.

Paragon and Glyphs to Hit High Pit Tiers

Start with the standard boards: Eliminator or Gravekeeper into Deadraiser, then Hulking Monstrosity, Flesh-eater, and Cult Leader. Level glyphs to 15 first on Eliminator/Deadraiser/Essence, then push to 46 for radius expansion. Pit runs are the fastest way to rank them up. This setup gives the extra minion damage and crit that turns good clears into leaderboard pushes.

Pit Pushing Tips That Save Your Runs

Position so your minions stay in the fight. Use Tendrils to cluster everything around the boss so the Golems or Arch Mages overlap damage. Keep Soulrift up for the Vulnerable multiplier. When killstreaks pop, the Bloodied Rampage affixes give free attack speed and CDR. For Butcher Lairs, your army tanks the cleaves while you just spam Golem. This is exactly why the earlier gear priorities matter.

Wrapping It Up

You now have two rock-solid minion setups that actually work in the current meta. Grab Gravebloom for safe Pit pushes or Hand of Naz for faster clears, cap those stats, and watch your leaderboard rank climb. The Butcher can’t touch you when your army is this strong. Go summon those minions, stack some killstreaks, and have a good time. You got this.
