Fortnite Holofoil Sprites Guide: Release Date & How to Find Them | GAMES.GG

Fortnite's Sprite system keeps expanding, and the latest addition is the Gem Sprite, a diamond-like variant that arrived on August 6 as part of the season's ongoing New Sprite Day events. There are 9 variants in total, each tied to specific locations across the Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 map. The buff they carry is a flat 30% fall damage reduction, which sounds useful until you think about how rarely fall damage actually kills you in a match. Still, completing the set is its own reward, and some of these have absurdly low drop rates.

All 9 Fortnite Gem Sprite variants and what they do

Gem Sprites share a single passive buff across the entire family: 30% fall damage reduction. Every variant applies the same effect, so your choice of which to hunt comes down to aesthetics and availability rather than power differences. Here's the full list:

  • Gem Water Sprite
  • Gem Earth Sprite
  • Gem Duck Sprite
  • Gem Demon Sprite
  • Gem Punk Sprite
  • Gem Zero Point Sprite
  • Gem Aura Sprite
  • Gem Grim Sprite
  • Gem Llama Sprite
tip
The 30% fall damage reduction stacks on top of your base Sprite power. If you already use the Air Sprite to negate fall damage entirely, swapping to a Gem Sprite is a straight downgrade. Keep that in mind before committing to one.

Where to find every Gem Sprite: full location table

Each variant has its own preferred spawn zone. Sprite Chests are your primary source, but the Gem Punk Sprite is Vault-exclusive and the Gem Llama Sprite only shows up in Rare/Relic Chests inside Renegade Vaults. Plan your drop accordingly.

tip
Golden Grove appears in multiple spawn tables. If you want to efficiently farm several Gem Sprites in one match, dropping there first and then rotating toward Wonkeeland covers a solid chunk of the list.

How rare are Gem Sprites?

The short answer: extremely. The Gem Zero Point Sprite holds the title of rarest Gem variant with a drop rate of 0.00001%. The Gem Grim Sprite is the second rarest at 0.00099%. Those numbers put both firmly in "you might play for weeks and never see one" territory.

The remaining seven variants are more accessible by comparison, but still significantly harder to pull than standard Sprites. Opening a single Sprite Chest and hoping for a Gem is not a reliable strategy. You need volume.

warning
Don't burn your entire match rotation chasing a Gem Zero Point Sprite through random Sprite Chests. The drop rate makes targeted farming almost pointless without a Lucky Locator or Sprite Locator tool to narrow the search.

How to find Gem Sprites faster

Raw luck is the main factor, but a few approaches tilt the odds in your favor.

Attend Gem Sprite events. The Gem Sprite Day launched August 6 at 9 AM ET, with Fortnite Gem Hours scheduled for August 8 at 2 PM and 9 PM ET. These windows increase your effective chances of pulling a Gem variant from chests, so timing your sessions around them matters.

Use the Peeky Peely Sprite. This Sprite has a built-in locator ability that detects nearby Sprites. Get it to level 5 to maximize its detection range before you start a Gem-hunting run.

Use the Lucky Locator item. Particularly useful for the Gem Zero Point Sprite, where the base drop rate makes blind farming impractical. The Lucky Locator helps direct you toward Sprite Chest clusters worth opening.

Trade with other players. If you've pulled duplicates of common Gem variants, trading is a legitimate path to filling gaps in your collection without grinding the same locations repeatedly.

If you're building out your full Sprite collection beyond Gems, check out the guides for Quack Sprite variants and how to unlock them and Cube Sprite locations across the map for more targeted farming routes.

Is the Gem Sprite worth using in battle?

Honestly, the 30% fall damage reduction buff is one of the weaker passive effects in the current Sprite pool. The Air Sprite completely negates fall damage, which makes the Gem Sprite's partial reduction feel like a downgrade in raw utility terms. The cases where 30% reduction actually saves your life are narrow: you'd need to take fall damage that lands you in the 1-29% lethal threshold, which is a specific enough scenario that you can't really build around it.

That said, Gem Sprites are clearly designed as collector items. The diamond aesthetic, the tight variant count of 9, and the eye-watering rarity of the Zero Point and Grim versions all signal that Epic wants these to function as status symbols more than meta tools. Hunting them for the satisfaction of completing the set is a completely valid reason to spend a few sessions on it.

For everything else happening with Sprites this season, the full Fortnite guides collection has dedicated pages covering every variant family, event schedule, and farming strategy in one place.
