The Pirate Shop Token in Fortnite drops at a rate of 1 in 137,500 per chest in normal matches. Treasure Hours improve that chance, but even boosted openings leave access extremely rare.

If you are deciding whether to dedicate matches to hunting the token, compare the chance per chest with the number you realistically expect to open. A published drop rate is not a chest-count requirement, and thousands of unsuccessful openings can fit those odds. The breakdown below covers the normal rate, Treasure Hour boosts, and what a long hunt means mathematically.

What are the normal and boosted token drop rates?

Epic's Fortnite Status announcement lists the token reward as Pirate Shop Access. The developer says normal treasure drop rates have stayed constant since Treasure Hunters launched and do not change throughout the day outside Treasure Hours.

The normal token rate works out to approximately 0.00073% per chest. Treasure Hours usually multiply that chance by 1.5, while a special November 7 evening session used a 2x multiplier.

Match or event conditionToken drop-rate multiplierChance per chestApproximate percentage
Normal match1x1 in 137,5000.00073%
Standard Treasure Hours1.5xAbout 1 in 91,6670.00109%
November 7 evening Treasure Hours2x1 in 68,7500.00145%

A 1.5x multiplier means the token is 50% more likely to drop on each opening. It does not mean you have a 50% chance of finding one. Even the special doubled rate remains well below 0.01% per chest.

When should you plan a Treasure Hour hunt?

The Fortnite Treasure Hour schedule splits Saturday's boosted drops into two sessions. Choose the window that fits your playtime:

Saturday sessionPacific TimeEastern Time
First session11 a.m. to 1 p.m. PT2 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET
Second session6 p.m. to 8 p.m. PT9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET

The next scheduled Saturday is November 14, with a 1.5x token boost listed for both sessions. The November 7 evening session's 2x multiplier was a special increase, not the standard rate for every evening window.

If you expect to open the same number of chests either way, choose Treasure Hours. Outside those sessions, changing the time you play does not improve the published normal rate.

How many chests give you a realistic chance?

Under that model, reaching roughly a 50% cumulative chance takes about 95,308 normal-rate chest openings.

A drop rate is not a guarantee

A one-in-137,500 chance does not mean the token arrives on chest 137,500. It describes the probability of an individual opening. You could find access early or finish a much longer hunt without it.

For independent rolls at a fixed rate, the chance of finding at least one token after n openings is 1 − (1 − p)ⁿ. Here, p is the chance per chest, and n is the number opened. The following calculations use the normal match rate throughout, without Treasure Hour boosts.

Chests opened at the normal rateCalculated chance of at least one token
1,000About 0.72%
2,000About 1.44%
5,000About 3.57%
10,000About 7.01%
50,000About 30.49%
137,500About 63.21%

That is a probability benchmark, not a target that awards access when reached.

What does a long unsuccessful hunt mean?

At these odds, opening several thousand chests without access is not surprising. A large personal chest total can feel substantial while still representing a low cumulative chance of finding this particular reward.

Your chest count is useful for measuring how much time you have committed. It should not be treated as a progress bar toward a guaranteed token. Under the independent-roll model above, previous misses do not make the next opening more likely to succeed.

Use those numbers to set a stopping point before you begin. If another session would only be enjoyable with a token drop, the odds do not support relying on that outcome.

How rare is access compared with other chest rewards?

Pirate Shop access is the second-rarest reward among the seven categories Epic published. The Fortnite Pirate Chest rewards also include weekly cosmetics and Gizmos, whose normal drop rates differ substantially.

Treasure rewardNormal drop chance per chest
Weekly Gold Outfit1 in 1,562,500
Pirate Shop Access1 in 137,500
Weekly Vehicle and Decal1 in 7,813
Weekly Pickaxe or Back Bling1 in 568
Weekly Jam Track1 in 391
Weekly Loading Screen1 in 272
Any Gizmo1 in 127

The Weekly Gold Outfit is even less likely than access. At the other end of the table, the Gizmo figure covers any Gizmo, not a separate one-in-127 chance for each individual item.

These are per-chest rates for the named categories. Do not treat them as percentages that apply only after a separate treasure reward has appeared, or assume the outfit and token are equally likely because both are rare prizes.

Should you farm for the Pirate Shop Token?

Dedicated farming makes the most sense during boosted sessions, provided opening chests is still worthwhile to you without the token.

Choose a hunt you would still enjoy without access

Normal matches remain valid opportunities, but an extended grind is a poor fit if you need a predictable reward for your time.

Epic says every player has an equal opportunity to find Pirate Shop access. Account age or loyalty is not a reason to expect a token before someone who has played less.

Use this plan to keep the hunt manageable:

  1. Choose your session. Prioritize a scheduled Treasure Hour when you can open roughly as many chests as you would during ordinary play.
  2. Set a playtime limit. Decide how long you want to hunt before starting, without tying the endpoint to finding access.
  3. Keep other match goals. Treat weekly cosmetics, Gizmos, and the match itself as reasons to keep playing, not evidence that a token is due.
  4. Stop when the hunt stops being enjoyable. Another batch of openings adds chances, but it does not promise a result.

What happens if a token drops?

The reward unlocks 14 days of free eligible Item Shop cosmetics after redemption. Follow the Fortnite Pirate Shop access and token steps to understand what you can claim and when your access window starts.

Keep finding the token and redeeming it as separate decisions. Once you have access to redeem, check the shop and the redemption details before starting the window so you can make use of the free cosmetics during those 14 days.
