Genshin Impact Boss Guide: How to Beat Chimeric Winged Lion

The Chimeric Winged Lion is one of Genshin Impact's nastiest additions in version 7.0. It wields two elements, fires homing projectiles, and never stops moving long enough for you to feel comfortable. This guide covers exactly where to find it, how both phases work, which reactions hit hardest, and the team compositions that make the fight manageable.

Where is the Chimeric Winged Lion located?

The boss sits north of Sretomorozsk, the first major city you encounter in Snezhnaya, past the Hunter's Cabin in an open field. Head straight north from Sretomorozsk and you will reach the arena without any detours. A teleport waypoint sits just outside the boss area, so after your first clear you can return quickly for future farm runs.

How does the Chimeric Winged Lion fight work?

The fight splits into two distinct phases, and understanding the transition between them is what separates a clean run from a messy wipe.

Phase one: Electro attacks

In the opening phase, the Chimeric Winged Lion relies entirely on Electro. Its attack kit here includes electric homing missiles that track your position, an electric plunge that crashes down from the air, and a ground slam that sends out an AoE burst across the floor. Sprint away from the missiles and the plunge, and jump during the ground slam's AoE burst to clear it without taking damage.

The boss carries an Electro shield during this phase, and you cannot deal meaningful damage until it breaks. Elemental attacks chip away at it, but Stellar Glimmer reactions strip it down far faster. Prioritize getting that shield down before you worry about burst windows.

tip
Stellar Glimmer reactions are significantly more effective at breaking the Electro shield than standard elemental hits. Build your team around triggering them consistently in phase one.

Phase two: Anemo attacks and the charging mechanic

Once the Electro shield breaks, the boss transitions to Anemo. Its projectile type changes to Anemo missiles, and it gains a combined Anemo and Electro breath attack that deals serious damage. Jump to dodge the breath attack when it fires.

The mechanic that catches most players off guard is the charging sequence. The boss will suddenly begin drawing small orbs toward you from the surrounding area. If you let it finish charging, it unleashes the breath attack. To interrupt this, hit the Anemo orbs with Pyro, Hydro, Cryo, or Electro before the charge completes. Stopping the charge prevents the breath attack entirely and keeps the fight manageable.

warning
The combined Anemo and Electro breath attack in phase two hits extremely hard. If you miss the orb interrupt, make sure your team has enough HP or shields to survive it.

What are the best teams for the Chimeric Winged Lion?

Because the boss is constantly mobile, teams that can deal damage without needing precise positioning have a clear advantage. Stellar Swirl and Stellar Conduct are the two reaction types to build around.

Stellar Swirl team (recommended)

After running this fight multiple times, Stellar Swirl consistently outperforms other approaches here. The boss's constant movement makes it hard to land stationary setups, and Stellar Swirl works well even when the target is repositioning.

Yumemizuki Mizuki handles the primary damage output. Faruzan amplifies Anemo damage and keeps the reaction flowing. Qiqi provides healing to sustain through the boss's aggression, and Odette fills the Sub DPS slot to maintain elemental application.

Stellar Conduct team

Stellar Conduct is a viable second option, though the boss's mobility makes landing it consistently harder than Stellar Swirl. With the right setup it still clears comfortably.

Sandrone leads the damage here with Yae Miko providing Electro application from range. Odette and Alyosha round out the team with elemental support and buffs.

What does the Chimeric Winged Lion drop?

The boss's primary drop is the Severed Tail of the Sky-Roamer, an ascension material required for several Snezhnaya characters. Beyond that, the reward pool covers a wide range of artifact sets and talent materials.

The Severed Tail of the Sky-Roamer is the main reason to farm this boss repeatedly, so prioritize clearing it once you have the characters that need it.

tip
The teleport waypoint directly outside the boss arena makes repeat farming fast. Set it as your quick-travel destination to cut down on travel time between resin spends.

Build your roster for Snezhnaya's toughest fights

The Chimeric Winged Lion rewards players who understand its phase structure and come prepared with the right reactions. Break the Electro shield fast in phase one, interrupt the charging orbs in phase two, and keep a Stellar Swirl team as your default approach.
