Who is Lohen and should you pull?
Genshin Impact's version 6.6 Phase 2 brings one of the most mechanically interesting Cryo characters in recent memory. Lohen is a 5-star Cryo Polearm DPS from Mondstadt, serving as the Vice Captain of the Knights of Favonius' Ranged Company. Despite leading a ranged unit, he fights up close with a polearm because, in his own words, driving a spear through an enemy is faster than drawing a bow. His banner, titled "Sharpened Arrowhead," goes live on June 9, 2026, alongside a Mavuika rerun.
What separates Lohen from the typical Cryo carry is his dual-resource system. He generates Joy through his own Normal and Charged Attacks, while his teammates fill Triumph with their off-field damage. Both resources feed into his special skill and Burst, meaning his damage ceiling scales directly with how well your team is built. Get the setup right and he competes with the top-tier DPS options in the current meta.

Lohen's Masterstroke Mode active
How does Lohen's kit work?
Lohen's Elemental Skill, Unforeseen Strike, puts him into Masterstroke Mode. While active, all Normal and Charged Attacks deal Cryo DMG and cannot be overridden by other elemental infusions. Two resources build during this state:
- Joy (capped at 100 stacks): Generated by Lohen's own Normal Attacks (+15 per hit) and Charged Attacks (+18 per hit). When Joy hits 100, the Elemental Skill transforms into Etched Into Bone and Soul, a large Cryo AoE burst that consumes all Joy and Triumph.
- Triumph (capped at 100 stacks, upgradeable with C1): Built by off-field teammates dealing damage while Masterstroke Mode is active. Teammates dealing a single hit worth 1000% or more of Lohen's Base ATK grant +20 stacks; smaller hits grant +1 stack each. A separate passive, Forbidden Admonition, grants an additional 60 Triumph whenever a teammate lands a single hit exceeding 4000% of Lohen's Base ATK.
This is why Durin is Lohen's most valuable teammate. Durin's single-hit damage regularly clears that 4000% threshold, making Triumph accumulation extremely fast.
His Elemental Burst, Manifest Judgment, fires six consecutive Cryo AoE hits and consumes all current Triumph to amplify total damage. Using it during Masterstroke Mode extends that mode by 1.65 seconds. The tension here is that both Etched Into Bone and Soul and the Burst compete for Triumph, so rotation planning matters. C4 resolves this by automatically filling Triumph to the cap when the Burst fires.
Talent priority for Lohen
Level his Elemental Skill first, then his Elemental Burst, and leave Normal Attack talent for last. The bulk of his personal damage runs through the Skill, but the Burst provides a meaningful damage increase once leveled. Normal Attack talent levels do not scale his Cryo-infused hits in Masterstroke Mode directly, so it's the lowest priority.
What are the best weapons for Lohen?
Lohen wants ATK scaling, CRIT stats, and ideally a passive he can consistently trigger. His signature weapon is purpose-built for his kit and pulls well ahead of alternatives.

Disaster and Remorse stats
Disaster and Remorse's 75% ATK bonus amplification only applies to Hexerei characters. Running it on anyone else in the roster makes the weapon significantly less effective, so keep it on Lohen.
What are the best artifacts for Lohen?
Lohen's best-in-slot set is A Day Carved From Rising Winds, the Hexerei DPS domain set. The 4-piece bonus grants +25% ATK after hitting enemies with Normal/Charged Attacks, Skills, or Burst. After completing the Witch's Homework quest, this upgrades to Resolve of Pastoral Winds, which also adds +20% CRIT Rate on top. That CRIT Rate bonus significantly reduces the pressure on finding CRIT Rate substats across your artifact pieces.
Main stat and substat priority
- Sands: ATK% (or Elemental Mastery in Reverse Melt teams)
- Goblet: Cryo DMG Bonus
- Circlet: CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG (maintain roughly 1:2 ratio)
- Substats: CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG first, then ATK%, then Energy Recharge
Aim for around 80% CRIT Rate and 160% CRIT DMG as a target. The Rising Winds set bonus covers 20% of that CRIT Rate, so your artifact rolls can focus more on CRIT DMG once the set is active.
The Rising Winds set bonus upgrade to Resolve of Pastoral Winds only activates after completing Lohen's Witch's Homework quest. Do not skip this quest after pulling him.
What are Lohen's best team compositions?
Lohen's damage output is directly tied to how fast his teammates fill Triumph. Teams without strong off-field damage will see noticeably lower performance. Here's how the options stack up.
Premium melt teams
These three lineups perform at roughly the same level and sit at high A-tier to low S-tier in current DPS rankings.
In all three, Durin is the biggest damage contributor on the team, not Lohen. This is why investing in Durin's early constellations can add over 30,000 DPS to your calculations. Nicole's teamwide ATK% buff benefits both Durin and Lohen simultaneously.
For the Xilonen variant, rotate Xilonen twice per cycle: once after Nicole and Durin set up, and again after Lohen's field time ends. If that rotation feels awkward, Citlali is the more comfortable pick since she uses Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers and swaps into Durin to give him the ATK% bonus. C6 Sucrose works similarly to Citlali but requires two swaps in a rotation as well.
No-Durin option
This becomes a burnmelt team. Emilie maintains the burn aura and provides off-field damage while Mavuika covers Pyro support duties. It works but falls below the Durin teams in raw output. If you want Mavuika for other teams, she fits here, but pulling her specifically for Lohen is not the best use of resources.
No-Nicole option
Rotation order: Durin, Xilonen, Albedo, Lohen, Xilonen. With solid investment this stays close to the premium teams.
Freeze team
This works, but it is meaningfully weaker than any melt option. Mona is needed for the Hex buff, preferably at higher constellations. Only worth running against specific boss mechanics that require Freeze.
F2P team
Xiangling handles off-field Pyro for Melt triggers, Bennett provides healing and ATK buff, Sucrose adds Elemental Mastery and enables Lohen's Hexerei passive. This is a significant step down from premium options in raw numbers, but it's a functional starting point.
How do you rotate with Lohen?
The core rotation principle is straightforward: deploy supports and sub-DPSes first, then bring Lohen in to spend their buffs and fill his Joy stacks.
- Activate off-field abilities in order of longest duration first (Durin, then Nicole or your flex support)
- Swap to Lohen and activate his Elemental Skill to enter Masterstroke Mode
- Use Normal and Charged Attacks to build Joy while teammates fill Triumph off-field
- Use Etched Into Bone and Soul when Joy hits 100
- Fire the Elemental Burst to consume Triumph and extend Masterstroke Mode
- Return to Step 1 when Masterstroke Mode ends
The decision of when to use the Burst versus saving Triumph for Etched Into Bone and Soul is the main execution challenge at C0. C4 removes this tension entirely by auto-filling Triumph when the Burst fires.
Are Lohen's constellations worth pulling?
C0 is fully functional and does not feel incomplete. C2 is the most impactful single constellation, adding a follow-up Cryo AoE hit dealing 300% ATK and granting the entire party +125 Elemental Mastery for 8 seconds after using Etched Into Bone and Soul or the Burst. In Melt teams, that EM boost translates directly to bigger reaction damage across the board.
C1 raises the Triumph cap to 250% and accelerates Triumph generation, which is a meaningful damage increase but less transformative than C2.
C6 removes all Triumph consumption from Etched Into Bone and Soul and the Burst, immediately refills Joy, and adds +80% CRIT DMG to those abilities. It is a massive ceiling increase but firmly in whale territory.
For most players: C0 is fine, C2 is worth chasing if budget allows, C6 is for dedicated fans only.
One important note from damage calculations: Lohen's early constellations give him around 8-9% personal damage increases, but because Durin contributes the majority of team damage, investing in Durin and Nicole constellations first can outperform Lohen's own C1 and C2 by a significant margin.
Ascension materials you need to farm
Lohen requires the following materials to reach level 90:
- Shivada Jade (Sliver, Fragments, Chunks, Gemstone): Farm from Cryo element bosses or convert via Alchemy
- Prismatic Severed Tail x46: Dropped by the Frostnight Herra boss on the north side of Hiisi Island in Nod-Krai (40 Original Resin per claim)
- Etherwing Moth x168: Found around Amsvartnir, Pillar of Embla, and Wing of Keres in Nod-Krai. Respawns every 48 hours. Start farming immediately since 168 copies takes a minimum of 2-3 weeks to accumulate.
- Arrowheads (Firm, Sharp, Weathered): Dropped by Hilichurl Shooters at various levels
For talent materials, Lohen uses the Resistance series from the City Without Light domain (available Monday, Thursday, and Sunday). Weekly boss drops come from The Doctor boss. Crown of Insight is needed for any talent pushed to level 10.
Etherwing Moth is the bottleneck material here. Start collecting it as soon as you access the Nod-Krai region. Everything else can be farmed more quickly once you have Lohen in hand.
Should you pull Lohen?
Lohen is a strong pull if your account has an open Cryo DPS slot and you already have or plan to pull Durin and Nicole. His damage output without those two drops noticeably since Triumph generation slows down significantly. The F2P teams are functional but fall well short of his premium ceiling.
His signature weapon is 10-20% stronger than alternatives, but Primordial Jade Winged-Spear and Staff of Homa are both solid options if you have them. The signature weapon's Hexerei bonus also does not transfer value to other characters, so it is a Lohen-specific investment.
If you are saving for version 6.7 or the Snezhnaya content in 7.0, Lohen is the safer skip since those regions are expected to introduce evolved Cryo reactions that could benefit future characters. But if you want a mechanically engaging Cryo carry right now, Lohen delivers.
