How to Fish Guide: How to Kill a Boss in Under 10 Seconds

The Easy achievement in How to Fish sounds deceptively simple, but killing any boss in under 10 seconds is genuinely one of the trickier unlocks in the game. Most bosses are unpredictable enough that you can't just rush them down. There's one exception: the Albatross on Island 4, whose spawn trigger is reliable enough to set up a Dynamite chain reaction that ends the fight before it really begins.

What do you need before attempting this?

You need to be at Island 4 before this strategy is viable. The Albatross doesn't appear earlier in the game, and its predictable arrival pattern is what makes the whole setup work. Before heading into the fight, sort out two things:

  • Buy at least 20 Dynamite sticks from the shop. Each one costs $25, so this is very manageable by the time you reach Island 4.
  • Equip the Professional Boss Lure on your fishing rod.
tip
Buy more than 20 Dynamites if you can afford it. A bigger pile means a more reliable chain reaction, and you don't want to attempt this twice because you ran short.

How to set up the Albatross kill

Step 1: Take down the Tuna boss first

Before the Albatross can be lured in, you need to defeat the Tuna boss. Use the Professional Boss Lure to hook it, then strafe while shooting to deal damage efficiently. Pick up a gun before this fight if you haven't already; the Tuna isn't a pushover.

Once the Tuna is dead, do not sell or discard the corpse. The dropped Tuna body is what attracts the Albatross, so it functions as your bait for the next phase.

Step 2: Lay the trap

With the Tuna corpse on the ground, place all your Dynamite sticks in a pile directly next to it. The goal is to create a cluster large enough that one triggered explosion sets off every other stick simultaneously.

Position yourself far enough back that the blast won't kill you, but close enough that you can throw a lit Dynamite accurately when the moment comes.

warning
Dynamite damages you too. Standing inside the blast radius while the chain reaction fires will end your run. Give yourself a safe throwing distance before lighting anything.

Step 3: Time the throw

When the Albatross health bar appears on screen, that's your cue. Watch for the bird flying downward toward the Tuna. As it descends, light one Dynamite and throw it into the pile. The chain reaction should trigger instantly, and the Albatross should be dead well within the 10-second window.

Timing is everything here. Throw too early and the Albatross may not be in the blast zone. Throw too late and you lose the window. Aim for the moment it's visibly coming down, not when it's still high in the air.

What's the reward for killing a boss in under 10 seconds?

Completing this feat unlocks the Easy achievement. The description reads simply: Kill a boss within 10 seconds. It's one of those achievements where the name does most of the trolling for you. Check the How to Fish trophy list for the full breakdown of every achievement and efficient unlock order.

Can other bosses be killed this way?

Yes, the Dynamite pile method works on other bosses too, but none of them are as consistent as the Albatross. The predictability of the Albatross spawn is what makes it the go-to target. That said, knowing which bait attracts which boss is useful if you want to experiment.

For bosses beyond the Albatross, a few other fast-kill tactics are worth knowing:

  • Have your strongest upgraded gun drawn before the boss spawns and stand near the expected spawn point to maximize early damage.
  • Every boss has a white bar beneath the health bar that acts as an escape despawn timer. Kill fast enough and it never becomes a factor.
  • Early bosses like Spider Crab are easier to burst down quickly because they don't waste time jumping around. Your first magazine can end the fight before the timer is relevant.

Where to go next

Once the Easy achievement is yours, there's plenty more to work through. The How to Fish all bosses guide covers every encounter from Spider Crab through to Magma Whale, with positioning tips and Dynamite tactics for each. If you're working through achievements systematically, that's the logical next stop after this one.

For everything else, the full How to Fish guides collection has you covered.
