Fast travel in Mortal Shell II works differently from most action games. You cannot teleport freely between Beacons the way you might expect. Instead, the game routes everything through the Marrow Keep hub, and there are two separate methods to get there and back, each unlocking at a different point in your run. Miss either one and you will spend a lot more time on foot than you need to.
How does fast travel work in Mortal Shell 2?
The core rule to understand first: fast travel is one-directional by default. You travel from the Marrow Keep to a Beacon, not between two Beacons directly. Every trip starts at the Keep, which means returning there is always step one before heading anywhere new.
Beacons are the checkpoints scattered across the world. Activating one by revitalizing it does three things: it adds that location to your fast travel map, lets you level up gear and swap equipment, and restores your HP and Resolve. The trade-off is that resting at a Beacon respawns all nearby enemies, so use them deliberately.
important
You can only fast travel to Beacons you have already activated. Exploring and touching every Beacon you find is worth doing early, not just for combat resets but to build out your travel network.
This method becomes available after completing the prologue and delivering your first Ova to the Marrow Keep. Once you have spoken to the NPCs inside the Keep, walk past the Gloom Siphon and take the elevator up to the roof.
At the top, you will find a black circular platform. Activating it pulls up a bird's-eye view of the world with all your activated Beacons visible as selectable pins. Pick your destination, confirm it, and a cutscene plays showing your character's essence launching through the air before crashing down at the chosen Beacon.
The method works reliably and unlocks early, but that cutscene gets old fast. If you are bouncing between locations frequently, the animation adds up. That is where the second method comes in.

Method 2: How to unlock Mether's Breath
Mether's Breath is the faster option and skips the need to take the elevator to the roof every time. You can use it directly from the Marrow Keep Beacon near the entrance, cutting out a chunk of the travel loop.
What is the Ova requirement?
Unlocking Mether's Breath requires siphoning 8 Ova at the Marrow Keep. Ova is earned by cleansing Beacons out in the world, with each cleansed Beacon rewarding one. Bring your collected Ova back to the Keep and interact with the globe-like contraption in the multi-tiered siphoning room to process them.
tip
If you are struggling to find enough Beacons to reach 8 Ova, head toward the Corrupt Gates marked on your map. These areas contain multiple Beacons clustered together, and cleansing the final Beacon in a Corrupt Gate rewards around 25 Ova in one go, making them the most efficient source by a wide margin.
What else does Mether's Breath do?
Beyond fast travel, Mether's Breath has a second function: it removes corruption blocking certain paths in the main areas. Once that corruption clears, previously sealed sections of the world open up. So collecting those 8 Ova is not just a quality-of-life unlock, it also gates off exploration in ways that matter for progression.
Tips for getting the most out of fast travel
Activate every Beacon you pass. There is no cost to revitalizing a Beacon, and each one you miss is a destination that does not appear on your fast travel map.
Plan your Corrupt Gate runs early. The 25 Ova reward from a gate's final Beacon means you can hit the 8 Ova threshold for Mether's Breath after just one successful Corrupt Gate clear.
Use Beacons for gear swaps, not just travel. Since Beacons let you change equipment and level up gear, combining a fast travel arrival with a loadout adjustment saves extra trips.
Enemy respawns are predictable. Resting at a Beacon resets the area, which is actually useful for farming Gloom if you need to level up before a tough fight.
