Embark Studios has confirmed a dedicated first-look presentation for Frozen Trail, the next major update coming to ARC Raiders, set to stream on September 23 at 10 a.m. PDT (7 p.m. CEST) on the official ARC Raiders YouTube channel. The full update drops October 8.
A short teaser posted on September 18 kicked things off with a deliberately cryptic glimpse at what appears to be the legs of an enormous ARC machine. The official account described it as "the biggest update yet" and asked viewers to spot the odd one out before the timer ran out. Small puzzle, big implication.
From monthly drops to two major updates a year
The shift in cadence here is worth understanding. ARC Raiders launched as one of 2025's breakout extraction shooters, and early on Embark was pushing monthly content updates to keep pace with player demand. That schedule proved unsustainable. Earlier this year the studio announced it was moving to a model built around two significant updates annually, with smaller patches and live-service activities filling the gaps.
Frozen Trail is the first major release under that new approach. The longer runway between updates means Embark has had more time to build something substantial, and the feature list they've been teasing backs that up.
What Frozen Trail is actually bringing
The update is shaping up to be the most content-dense release since ARC Raiders launched. Here's what Embark has confirmed so far:
- A new map, described as the largest added to the game, with greater verticality and more navigation risk
- New ARC threats ranging from smaller machines to a massive enemy that can stop players cold
- A high-level challenge within the ARC operation activity, testing combat, cooperation, and survival
- An expansion of the Raiders Den into a more flexible system called the Outpost
- A full Skill Tree overhaul aimed at making progression feel more rewarding
The map size and verticality changes are particularly interesting. Previous maps have been competent but fairly flat in terms of movement options. If Embark delivers on the promise of genuine elevation play and discovery, it addresses one of the more consistent complaints from the extraction shooter crowd.
The Expeditions question
Pausing Expeditions until 2027 is a notable call. The opt-in character-reset system has drawn criticism for narrow departure windows, underwhelming rewards, and a rough experience for newer players. Rather than patching around those problems, Embark is treating it as a fundamental design question, which is either reassuring or concerning depending on how much you valued the mode.
The September 23 stream may shed more light on where Expeditions actually stand. Given Grøndal's comments, it would not be surprising if the first look touches on the broader direction of the game beyond just Frozen Trail's content.
For a full breakdown of previous major updates and their release windows, the ARC Raiders Flashpoint release date and start times guide has everything you need on how Embark has structured past events.
The September 23 stream is the clearest signal yet of what Frozen Trail actually looks like in motion. October 8 is close enough that Embark will need to show real content, not just another teaser. Keep an eye on the ARC Raiders guides hub for full coverage once the details drop.
