If you've loaded a late-game save into Palworld 1.0 and suddenly found half your crafting recipes blocked by a material you've never seen, you're not alone. Wooden Boards are a brand-new addition to the game's crafting system, and they're now baked into the recipes for dozens of items, both new and old. The good news is that the recipe is straightforward and the materials are easy to gather once you know where to look.
How do you unlock the Wooden Board recipe?
The Wooden Board recipe sits at level 15 on the Technology tree, which is exactly the kind of early-game tier that experienced players tend to fly past without a second glance. If you've been playing since early access and never picked it up, you'll need to scroll back down to tier 15 and spend 1 Technology Point to unlock it.
This is a common trap for returning players. You have hundreds of hours logged, your base is well-established, and then a crafting requirement for something mid-tier just stops working. Checking the Technology tree is always the first step.
What do you need to craft Wooden Boards?
The recipe itself is light on exotic materials. To craft one Wooden Board you need:
- 10x Wood
- 5x Fiber
- 1x Nail

Production Assembly Line in action
Wood and Fiber are both available from trees and are among the most abundant resources in the game. Nails are where the process gets slightly longer, since they require an Iron Ingot to craft, which in turn means collecting Ore and smelting it at a Furnace. That's two prerequisite steps before you can produce a single Nail, so make sure your iron supply chain is running before you start queueing up Wooden Board orders.
One important detail from testing: Wooden Boards require at least a High-Quality Workbench to craft. The basic Primitive Workbench won't do the job, so you'll need to have progressed past the very earliest stage of the game. Assign some Pals with crafting work suitability to the workbench and they'll handle production automatically.
What are Wooden Boards used for in Palworld?
This is where the material earns its place in your crafting rotation. Wooden Boards are required across a wide range of weapons and base structures, making them a genuine mid-game bottleneck if you haven't stocked up.
Weapons that require Wooden Boards
Several weapons now need Wooden Boards as a crafting ingredient:
- Primitive Sword
- Refined Metal Axe
- Refined Metal Pickaxe

Breeding Farm build requirements
Base structures that require Wooden Boards
Base building is where Wooden Boards really pile up in demand. The following structures all require them:
That's a substantial list, and most of those structures are ones you'll want running as quickly as possible. Stock up on Wooden Boards early rather than scrambling to produce them one at a time when you're mid-build.
How far does the Wooden Board carry you?
Think of Wooden Boards as the material that bridges early survival and proper base infrastructure. They're not the most glamorous resource, but without them you can't build the structures that make everything else run efficiently. The Breeding Farm alone is worth stocking up for, since breeding is one of the most effective ways to develop strong Pals.
If you're building out a full base from scratch in 1.0 or pushing into the new endgame content, pairing your Wooden Board production with a solid iron supply chain will keep things moving.
