You can get Sulfur in Palworld by mining yellow deposits in Mt. Obsidian, Verdant Brook, and Bamboo Grove, or building a Sulfur Quarry at level 46.

For bulk trips, Mt. Obsidian has the largest concentration, but Bamboo Grove is a more practical first stop if you lack heat protection. Your long-term target is the 100 Sulfur needed to build the Quarry. Once Mining Pals handle production at your base, keeping Gunpowder stocked stops depending on another trip into the volcano. Until then, choose a cluster you can reach, survive, and haul resources home from.

Where are the best Sulfur locations?

Mt. Obsidian contains 163 Sulfur nodes, making it the strongest region for bulk gathering. You also have useful clusters in Bamboo Grove and Verdant Brook, both of which offer mild climates without the volcano's heat-resistance requirement.

These coordinates give you specific clusters to aim for rather than an entire region to search:

RegionCluster coordinatesSulfur nodes in clusterWhy visit?
Bamboo Grove(-235, -377)6Lower-level option without heat protection
Bamboo Grove(-342, -198)6Another mild-climate collection spot
Verdant Brook(290, -99)10Large cluster outside the volcanic region
Mt. Obsidian, Ruined Fortress City(-743, -336)10Dense volcanic cluster for bulk mining
Mt. Obsidian(-746, -446)10Another large cluster for a mining outpost
Mt. Obsidian(-591, -406)9Strong alternative within the volcano region
Mt. Obsidian(-595, -521)9Another substantial collection point

Which location should you choose first?

Start with Bamboo Grove if your equipment is still catching up. Its two six-node clusters give you a clear destination without requiring volcanic exploration. Verdant Brook's cluster at (290, -99) is worth considering once you can handle that region's higher-level encounters.

Mt. Obsidian becomes the better bulk-farming choice once you have the required heat protection. Its regional abundance gives you more deposits to work through, but a ten-node volcanic cluster is not automatically more convenient than Verdant Brook's ten-node cluster. Travel and hauling still matter.

What should you bring on a Sulfur run?

Pack for two separate problems: breaking Sulfur deposits and carrying the results. A Metal Pickaxe speeds up manual mining, while suitable Pals help with either extraction or hauling capacity.

  • Metal Pickaxe: Bring this instead of relying on a weaker pickaxe for repeated mining trips.
  • Heat Resistant armor: Mt. Obsidian requires Heat Resistance Lv. 2. Heat Resistant Pelt, Metal, Refined Metal, and Pal Metal armor provide that protection.
  • A Mining Pal: Natural Sulfur deposits require Mining Lv. 2 or higher for Pal mining assistance.
  • Cattiva: Keeping Cattiva in your party increases your carrying capacity, which helps you bring more Sulfur home.

Sulfur has a weight of 3 per item, so a haul of 100 adds 300 weight. Empty unnecessary items before leaving, and consider investing in Weight if hauling repeatedly cuts your trips short. The resource stacks to 9,999, but carrying capacity will become a problem well before that.

Which Pals should you use to mine Sulfur?

Digtoise is a practical mid-game choice, Astegon is a strong non-Fire option for volcanic trips, and Anubis suits a base that needs more than mining. Any Pal meeting the natural deposit's Mining Lv. 2 requirement can help, so you do not need an endgame worker to start collecting Sulfur.

PalMining level in Palworld 1.0Best reason to choose it
Digtoise4Accessible mid-game miner with a rolling mining attack
Anubis6Strong mining plus Handiwork Lv. 6 for other base jobs
Astegon7High Mining rating without a Fire Pal's heat penalty
Blazamut7Strong mining, but adds heat concerns during volcanic trips
Aegidron8Higher Mining rating for players who have reached the World Tree

For a Mt. Obsidian collection trip, Astegon is the cleaner pick over Blazamut when both are available. They share Mining Lv. 7, but Astegon avoids adding another heat level for you to resist. Digtoise remains useful before either is within reach.

These Mining ratings reflect Palworld 1.0. Later updates may change work suitability or technology requirements, so check your Pal's current work suitability when assigning a miner.

How do you farm Sulfur faster without a Quarry?

A short collection loop is more useful than wandering Mt. Obsidian with an overloaded inventory. Choose a known cluster, establish your return route, and make each visit a focused mining trip.

  1. Choose a cluster you can safely reach. Bamboo Grove and Verdant Brook avoid the volcano's heat requirement; Mt. Obsidian offers more deposits across the region.
  2. Unlock a nearby Fast Travel point. Use it to shorten the return to your base after collecting Sulfur.
  3. Mine with a Metal Pickaxe and a suitable Pal. A party Pal with the required Mining level can assist while you work.
  4. Return before carrying capacity ruins the trip. Drop the Sulfur at your base instead of dragging a full inventory between distant deposits.
  5. Revisit after the nodes respawn. Sulfur nodes return in about 30 minutes of real time after being broken.

Do not judge a Sulfur location by node count alone. Verdant Brook's ten-node cluster has the same cluster count as the two largest Mt. Obsidian spots above, without requiring heat protection. The volcano wins on regional abundance, not on every individual trip.

For a Mt. Obsidian trip that also covers Coal, use the Palworld Coal locations and farming guide to plan the Coal portion of your route.

How do you unlock and automate the Sulfur Quarry?

The Sulfur Quarry unlocks at Technology level 46. Find it in the Technology tree, then gather the following construction materials:

MaterialRequired amount
Stone70
Sulfur100
Paldium Fragment30
Ancient Civilization Parts10

Unlike natural Sulfur deposits, the Quarry only requires Mining Lv. 1 to operate. Higher Mining levels improve production speed, making Digtoise, Anubis, or Astegon useful upgrades over a minimum-level worker.

The Quarry requires 8,000 work units per Sulfur produced. Work units are not seconds: the assigned Pal's Mining level, work-speed passives such as Artisan, and world settings affect how quickly production finishes. Choose your worker before assuming how much Sulfur the building will supply.

Is a natural-node Sulfur base still useful?

A cluster outpost can supply Sulfur before level 46. Place the base so its area reaches multiple deposits, assign two or three Pals with Mining Lv. 2 or higher, and include a Pal with Transporting to collect the dropped materials. The miners can work through the deposits again after they respawn.

Choose the cluster before committing to the outpost. Sulfur deposits can be spread too far apart for one base to reach several, while the clusters at (290, -99) and (-743, -336) each contain ten nodes within a single base radius.

If you're deciding how much base space to dedicate to Sulfur, the Palworld best base locations guide helps you compare a mining outpost with other resource-focused sites.

Can you get Sulfur without mining deposits?

Pierdon drops Sulfur, and volcano expeditions provide another supply route. These are alternatives when you already have access to those activities, rather than reasons to abandon a convenient mining cluster.

MethodSulfur rewardReward chance
Defeat Pierdon4-5100% per kill
Standard volcano expedition20-40100% per reward roll
Hard volcano expedition10-20100% per reward roll

Expedition rewards arrive when the expedition returns. The standard volcano expedition has the larger Sulfur reward range, but those quantities alone do not establish which expedition produces more Sulfur per minute.

Dungeons can also contain yellow Sulfur deposits. Mine any you encounter while exploring, and watch for Syndicate enemies nearby. For a dedicated collection trip, the surface coordinates above give you a specific destination.

What is Sulfur used for?

Gunpowder is the main reason to maintain a regular Sulfur supply, especially as firearm ammunition becomes part of your routine. Sulfur also goes into medicine, Polymer, Corrosive Solvent, and Pal gear, so ammunition is not its only drain.

Crafting recipeSulfur required
Gunpowder1
Polymer1
Corrosive Solvent1
High Quality Recovery Meds5
Advanced Recovery Meds10
Revival Potion20
Attack Support Whistle25

If Corrosive Solvent is the reason you're collecting Sulfur, the Palworld Corrosive Solvent crafting guide covers the remaining ingredients and production setup.

Build your supply around the next useful milestone: collect from a mild-climate cluster first, move to Mt. Obsidian when you can resist its heat, and save 100 Sulfur for the level 46 Quarry. That reserve turns a collection trip into the start of a steady base supply.
