Anime Expeditions Villain Chests Guide

The Villain Hunt event in Roblox Anime Expeditions is one of the better loot events the game has run. Villain Chests drop reroll materials across five categories plus the rare Crow (Rider) skin, and the daily milestone system means consistent players stack chests faster each day they log in. The catch is that the whole event closes with Update 1, so there's a hard deadline on everything here.

Where do Villain Chests actually come from?

Villain Chests are tied exclusively to the Villain Hunt loot event. They do not drop from the separate Villain Invasion game mode, which trips up a lot of players. The bosses that drop chests only appear inside the four non-competitive stage types:

  • Story
  • Infinite
  • Challenge
  • Mastery

Any of these four works, but Infinite mode is the strongest farming target because it generates continuous waves without forcing a stage restart. Faster clears mean more spawn opportunities per hour, so pick whichever map you can clear quickly rather than the hardest difficulty you can survive.

How to trigger a villain boss and get villain chests

Villain bosses spawn at random intervals during any eligible stage. When one appears, an on-screen alert fires: "[Villain Name] (Boss) Appeared! A random villain has invaded the stage! Defeat them to obtain Villain Chests!" Both the boss identity and the spawn timing are randomized, and multiple bosses can invade the same stage simultaneously.

Kill the villain boss and 5 Villain Chests land in your Items bag immediately. There's no extra step to claim them from a menu at this point; they just arrive.

tip
Infinite mode skips the stage-restart loop entirely. Stack up boss kills here rather than replaying Story acts from the beginning each time.

Daily milestones: how the chest count scales up

Beyond the 5 chests per boss kill, the Villain Hunt tracker rewards bonus chests and Event Coins as you hit daily boss-kill milestones. You can defeat up to 15 villain bosses per day to clear all daily milestones. The payout increases by 5 chests each consecutive day, so logging in daily is the most efficient way to build a large chest stockpile.

By Day 10, a single day of milestone completion hands you 50 chests on top of whatever you farmed from boss kills. That's a meaningful amount of reroll material if you're targeting a specific trait or equipment substat.

The Villain Hunt event ends with Update 1. Any chests you haven't opened before then disappear along with the event, so don't sit on a stockpile.

How to open Villain Chests

Earning chests doesn't automatically grant their contents. Each chest must be opened manually, and each one yields exactly one reward. There are two places to do this.

Opening from the Events page

  1. Click the Events button in the left-hand menu.
  2. Select Villain Hunt to reach the event screen.
  3. Click the Villain Chest, then press Open to reveal your reward.

This is the most convenient route if you're already on the Villain Hunt page collecting daily milestone chests.

Opening from the Items bag

  1. Click the Items button in the left-hand menu.
  2. Find the Villain Chest in your bag.
  3. Click it, then press the open button.

The Items bag method works without visiting the Events page at all, which saves a couple of menu clicks during a grinding session.

What rewards can you get from Villain Chests?

Every chest returns exactly one item from the pool below. Villain Coins are the headline drop since they fund villain unit summons, evolution items, and unit equipment purchases. The Crow (Rider) skin is the rare cosmetic pull and is chance-based, not guaranteed.

The reroll materials here are genuinely useful outside the event context. Trait Crystals let you chase better trait rolls, and Equipment Reroll plus Equipment Lock tokens are exactly what you need when you're one substat away from a perfect piece of gear. For a deeper look at how traits work and which ones to prioritize, the Anime Expeditions traits guide covers every trait ranked with roll chances and passive bonuses.

Quick troubleshooting: why aren't villain bosses spawning?

If you're playing and no villain alert appears, check two things. First, confirm you're in Story, Infinite, Challenge, or Mastery and not the Villain Invasion mode. Second, spawn timing is fully random, so there's no guaranteed trigger. Infinite mode gives the most spawn opportunities simply because you stay in the stage longer without restarting.

If you want to stock up on free resources while you grind, redeeming Anime Expeditions codes for July 2026 before each session adds free Gems and Trait Crystals that pair well with whatever drops from your chests.

tip
Multiple villain bosses can appear in the same stage simultaneously. If two spawn at once, defeating both counts as two separate boss kills toward your daily milestone.

Making the most of your chest rewards

The reroll materials from Villain Chests work best when you already know what you're targeting. Stat Locks and Equipment Locks are the highest-value drops because they let you preserve a good roll while fishing for improvements on other stats. Without them, every reroll risks wiping a stat you wanted to keep.

If you're still building out your roster and aren't sure which units to invest these materials into, the Anime Expeditions equipment guide breaks down every gear piece, where to farm it, and how to reroll for maximum stats. Pairing that knowledge with a steady chest-farming routine gives you a clear path to a stronger team before the event closes.

For everything else across the game, the full collection of Roblox guides has you covered on maps, units, evolutions, and more.
