The D.R.E.D Rod task requires 9 Cursed Fish, and the most reliable route starts with a Cursed Storm Totem. In Fisch on Roblox, this totem guarantees a Cursed Storm, giving you access to a special pool where each catch has an 8% chance of receiving the Cursed mutation. An Aurora Totem can trigger the storm too, but its 20% activation chance makes it less dependable. Once the weather changes, your next job is finding the pool. Fishing in the wrong water wastes the opportunity.

Which fish count toward the D.R.E.D Rod task?

A Cursed Fish is a fish carrying the Cursed mutation, rather than one particular species. You do not need to hunt a specific fish to satisfy this part of the D.R.E.D Rod quest. The mutation is what matters.

The fishing area you need is the Cursed Storm Pool, also associated with the Cultist Curse Fishpool. Getting the event active and reaching that pool are separate steps, so keep watching for its location announcement after a storm begins.

If you are also filling the Halloween event bestiary, keep that objective separate with the FischFright 3 fish guide. For Cursed Fish, focus on the storm and its designated fishing area.

What's the best way to spawn a Cursed Storm?

Use a Cursed Storm Totem when your goal is specifically to catch Cursed Fish. It guarantees the event, while an Aurora Totem only gives you a chance when Aurora Borealis begins.

MethodCursed Storm spawn chanceWhere to obtain itBest reason to choose it
Cursed Storm Totem100%Daily Shop or Rare Goods DealerYou want to start the storm directly
Aurora Totem20% per activationChests or Daily ShopYou already have one and accept the chance of no storm

The Aurora Totem's 20% chance applies at the start of Aurora Borealis. Activating one does not guarantee that a Cursed Storm will accompany it. If that extra event does not appear, you still need another opportunity to trigger the storm.

Can a Cursed Storm appear naturally?

During the original Cults Curse limited-time event, a Cursed Storm could begin naturally at the start of an in-game day. That route depended on the event being active and a random spawn occurring.

For an on-demand attempt at the D.R.E.D Rod task, the Cursed Storm Totem is the direct option. Previously purchased totems can also activate the storm after the original Cults Curse event has ended.

Where can you get a Cursed Storm Totem?

Check the Daily Shop and the Rare Goods Dealer for a Cursed Storm Totem. Shop availability varies, and the Daily Shop does not always stock it, so check the current offer before planning your fishing session around a purchase.

  • Daily Shop: Look for the Cursed Storm Totem in the available stock.
  • Rare Goods Dealer: Check the merchant's offerings when available.
  • Your inventory: A totem saved from an earlier event can still start the storm.

Aurora Totems have another acquisition route through chests, as well as the Daily Shop. They are an alternative if you already own one, but the guaranteed storm totem remains the better fit for this specific quest objective.

What about Brother Silas?

Brother Silas belonged to the original Cults Curse purchasing route. During that event, he teleported players into the Cult Curse room, where the Cursed Storm Totem could be purchased. Access to that room ended with the event.

For your current search, check the Daily Shop, the Rare Goods Dealer, or an existing totem in your inventory. Stock and event access can change with updates, so check the in-game offers before committing to a route.

Where does the Cursed Storm Pool spawn?

Watch the server-wide announcement when the storm begins. It identifies the pool's location near an island. Grand Reef is a common spawn location, but the announcement should guide your trip because the pool can appear near different islands.

Follow this sequence once the event activates:

  1. Read the storm announcement and identify the named location.
  2. Travel by boat to that island.
  3. Find the Cursed Storm Pool and fish inside it.

Being under Cursed Storm weather is not enough by itself. The mutation opportunity comes from catches made inside the Cursed Storm Pool, so confirm that you have reached the event's fishing area before settling in.

How do you catch fish with the Cursed mutation?

Equip your preferred rod and keep fishing inside the Cursed Storm Pool. Each fish caught there has an 8% chance of receiving Cursed, regardless of which species you are targeting. A successful storm activation gets you access to those attempts; it does not guarantee a mutated catch.

Can a rod or enchantment apply Cursed?

Cursed does not come from a rod, an enchantment, or the Appraiser. Changing equipment to chase a mutation-specific passive will not replace the storm requirement. Your priority is reaching the correct pool and continuing to catch fish while it remains active.

That makes this a different kind of objective from other mutation hunts. If you are pursuing another mutation afterward, follow the separate Noxious mutation guide rather than carrying the Cursed Storm method into that task.

How can you recognize a Cursed Fish?

Cursed gives a fish a neon teal or green appearance. It also has a distinctive sound when you hold and interact with the fish, providing another way to recognize the mutation.

Is there another way to catch Cursed Fish?

The Pond Emperor Uprising event provides another opportunity, with a 10% chance of a Cursed catch. It is an admin-only event associated with weekend Admin Abuses before updates, making access unpredictable.

That higher 10% chance is useful if the event is already happening, but you cannot schedule it yourself. For a D.R.E.D Rod session you want to start on demand, a Cursed Storm Totem is the practical choice.

What should you check before your next attempt?

Keep the D.R.E.D Rod objective focused on these steps:

  • Obtain a Cursed Storm Totem for a guaranteed storm, or accept the Aurora Totem's 20% chance.
  • Read the server announcement instead of assuming the pool is at Grand Reef.
  • Fish inside the Cursed Storm Pool for the 8% mutation chance.
  • Continue working toward the required 9 Cursed Fish while the event is active.
