Reaching the endgame in Windrose means confronting a crafting wall that stops most players cold: Ingot Arborum. This enchanted alloy, developed by Kraken Express as the backbone of Tier 4 and Tier 5 gear, cannot be mined or looted from a chest. Every single one must be synthesized through a multi-stage process that sends you deep into the Cursed Swamps, forces you to build specialized stations, and puts you face-to-face with one of the biome's most dangerous predators. The good news is that once you understand the full chain, the grind becomes manageable and even efficient.

What makes Ingot Arborum so hard to get?

The difficulty is intentional. According to xboxplay.games, Ingot Arborum is gated behind biome-specific resources, station prerequisites, and a specific enemy drop that requires real combat preparation. Unlike Iron or Copper, there is no ore node to mine. The path runs through the Cursed Swamps exclusively, and every ingredient in the recipe traces back to that biome.

Here is the full ingredient list you need before sitting down at the Enchanting Table:

Loading table...

Note that if you have not yet built your Enchanting Table, you need a total of 4 Essence Arborum (2 for the table, 2 for the ingot) and 5 Mire Metal Ingots (3 for the table, 2 for the ingot). Plan your swamp runs accordingly.

Step 1: Build a Large Smelting Furnace first

The standard furnace you built early in the game cannot process Plague Wood. According to xboxplay.games, the Large Smelting Furnace is the only station capable of handling swamp resources. To build it, you need:

  • 20x Hewn Stone
  • 10x Foothills Iron Ingot
  • 20x Clay

Hewn Stone is crafted from basic stone at a workbench, so stock up before your first swamp trip. Place the furnace at your base and make sure you have fuel (wood or coal) loaded before processing anything.

Step 2: Farm Plague Wood in the Cursed Swamps

Head into the Cursed Swamps biome, where a Wood Plague meter appears on screen to signal you are in a contamination zone. The trees you want are visually distinct: twisted, leafless, and marked with red spots according to nerdschalk.com. Chop them down and collect the Plague Wood logs the same way you would harvest any fallen tree.

Any plagued zone works. You do not need to hunt for a specific spawn point. The source also notes that Plague Crocodiles and other plague enemies can drop Plague Wood as an alternative, which means a single swamp run can net you both wood and combat drops simultaneously.

Step 3: Smelt Plague Wood into Essence Arborum

With Plague Wood in your inventory, access your Furnace or Large Smelting Furnace at base. The conversion ratio is 1:1: one Plague Wood yields one Essence Arborum. According to nerdschalk.com, simply crafting and collecting your first Essence Arborum permanently unlocks the Enchanting Table recipe in your crafting menu. That single interaction is the progression gate, so do not skip picking it up from the output slot.

Smelt all 4 at once if you are building the table from scratch, or 2 if the table is already standing.

Step 4: Craft Mire Metal Ingots

Each Mire Metal Ingot requires 2x Ancient Scraps and 1x Quagmire Powder, smelted at the Large Smelting Furnace. Ancient Scraps are found in ruins scattered through the swamp, and Quagmire Powder is processed from swamp minerals. You need 2 Mire Metal Ingots for the Ingot Arborum recipe itself, plus 3 more if you are building the Enchanting Table, for a total of 5.

Step 5: Hunt Plague Crocodiles for Tainted Bile

This is the step that ends most players' runs prematurely. Plague Crocodiles are found near disease points of interest and waterlogged areas in the Cursed Swamps. They are visually distinct from regular crocodiles: glowing eyes and visibly sickly skin. Regular jungle or coastal crocodiles do not drop Tainted Bile, only the plague variant does.

After testing this encounter across multiple runs, the most consistent approach is:

  • Equip a bow or crossbow before entering the area
  • Keep distance and kite in a straight line, since their movement is predictable
  • Fight on open ground to avoid getting cornered
  • Bring healing supplies and clear your inventory to avoid encumbrance penalties

If direct combat is not viable yet, xboxplay.games notes that fresh carcasses sometimes appear in the swamp when environmental hazards or other enemies kill a crocodile first. Scavenging bile from those is a legitimate shortcut. On multiplayer servers, grouping up and having one player draw aggro while others use ranged attacks makes this fight significantly safer.

Step 6: Build the Enchanting Table

Once you have your first Essence Arborum collected, the Enchanting Table recipe is available in your building menu under Crafting and Utilities. According to nerdschalk.com, the build requirements are:

  • 3x Mire Metal Ingot
  • 10x Hewn Stone
  • 10x Plant Fiber (cut from jungle shrubs)
  • 2x Essence Arborum

Place the table under a roof within bonfire range for it to function. The station has 3000 HP and counts as a refining station. Once placed, interact with it to access the Ingot Arborum recipe and other advanced enchanting crafts.

Step 7: Craft Ingot Arborum

Open the Enchanting Table menu, confirm you have 2x Essence Arborum, 2x Mire Metal Ingot, and 1x Tainted Bile in your inventory, then select the Ingot Arborum recipe. The craft completes instantly and yields one ingot.

According to nerdschalk.com, each Ingot Arborum unlocks further recipes including Bullet Arborum and other advanced outputs. The table continues producing enchanted items beyond just this ingot, so the station pays for itself quickly.

What is Ingot Arborum used for?

Based on information from xboxplay.games and nerdschalk.com, confirmed uses include:

  • Tier 4 and Tier 5 weapons and armor
  • Bullet Arborum (high-tier ammunition)
  • Advanced base defense structures
  • High-level magical artifacts and rings
  • Ongoing enchanting recipes at the Enchanting Table

Should you farm Ingot Arborum before you are ready?

Only if regular swamp enemies are no longer a serious threat. If Plague Crocodiles are consistently killing you, the priority order according to community guides is: better armor first, then stronger weapons, then a healing stockpile, then movement efficiency upgrades. Once the Cursed Swamps feel manageable, the Arborum farming loop runs smoothly and the gear payoff is immediate.
