Survival in Everwind lives and dies by what's in your food pouch. You can have the sharpest weapons and the heaviest armor, but one bad fight in a high-altitude biome will drain your HP faster than you can sprint back to the airship. The Cooking Station is your answer to that problem, and learning every recipe it offers is one of the best investments you can make early in the game.

How does cooking work in Everwind?

The Cooking Station is introduced during your first settlement, and it's worth treating that tutorial moment seriously. Every meal and drink you craft there restores either HP or stamina over time, making cooked food strictly better than eating raw ingredients in almost every situation.

Raw ingredients can restore a small amount of HP in an emergency, but the return is poor compared to what even a basic cooked meal delivers. Save your ingredients for the Cooking Station whenever possible.

The station needs fuel in the fire to function, so keep wood stocked before you start a batch. Once food finishes cooking, the station visibly steams to signal it's ready. Cooked meals have no expiration timer, so cooking in bulk and stashing meals in a chest before heading out is a completely valid strategy.

One thing that catches new players off guard: recipes do not unlock automatically. Having the ingredients in your inventory doesn't grant access to a recipe. You need to physically find and unlock each recipe by exploring the world, particularly inside settlements. Keep an eye on treasure chests and cabinets in any settlement you raid.

Because Everwind uses procedural generation, exact recipe locations shift between playthroughs. There's no fixed map marker to follow, so consistent exploration is the only reliable path to a full recipe book.

What ingredients do you need for cooking?

Ingredients fall into four broad categories, each sourced from different parts of the world:

  • Herbs: Flowers and tubers scattered across biomes, found in grassy areas and near water.
  • Mushrooms: The most beginner-friendly ingredient type. Porcini and Chanterelle spawn plentifully near your starting area, making mushroom-based recipes the easiest to maintain early on.
  • Produce: Berries, vegetables, and fruits that grow natively in biomes and can eventually be farmed as you progress.
  • Creature Loot: Meat and Eggs dropped by animals during combat. These drop rates make fighting worthwhile beyond just XP.

Stock up on mushrooms early and often. A Mushroom Stew costs 3 Porcini, 3 Chanterelle, and 3 Water, and restores 60 HP over 30 seconds. That's a reliable mid-fight heal that costs almost nothing to produce in the opening hours.

All health restoration recipes

Health meals restore HP progressively over time. Eating one large meal and letting it tick through its full duration is more efficient than panic-eating multiple smaller items mid-fight.

Crispy Corn Fritters are the clear top-tier health meal at 120 HP over 60 seconds, though the ingredient cost (4 Corn, 1 Honey, 1 Egg, 1 Fat) means they're harder to mass-produce early. Spicy Mushroom Stew at 80 HP over 45 seconds is a strong mid-game alternative that requires ingredients you'll likely have in good supply.

All stamina regeneration recipes

Most stamina restorers in Everwind are beverages and infusions rather than solid food. Carry at least one stamina drink alongside your health meals on every expedition, especially once you're pushing into higher atmospheric levels where enemies hit harder and longer fights drain your stamina bar.

Bellflower Bite Infusion is the best stamina option available, restoring 150 stamina over 30 seconds. Bell Flower appears in three of the four stamina recipes, so prioritizing that herb during exploration pays off significantly. The Tropical Energy Drink restores 90 stamina in just 5 seconds, making it the better choice when you need an immediate burst rather than a steady regen.

What's the best food strategy for exploring new biomes?

The short answer: carry both types. Health meals handle combat damage, but stamina drinks keep your movement and combat actions flowing during extended fights. As you push into higher biomes with tougher enemy variants than the early-game Mortivar foes, running out of stamina mid-fight becomes a real threat.

Pair your food choices with skill tree investments in the relevant regeneration stats. The cooking system works best when it's complementing your build rather than compensating for it.
