Neverness to Everness Guide: Best Lacrimosa Build

Lacrimosa arrived in Neverness to Everness with version 1.1, and she's been a long time coming. Players who followed the main story already met her during the vending machine arc, but now she's finally pullable as the game's second Chaos character and a genuinely strong on-field main DPS. Her whole identity revolves around stacking Nightmare DoT, triggering the Discord Esper Cycle reaction, and punishing broken enemies with her passive Tomato Banquet. Get those three things working together and she hits extremely hard.

What makes Lacrimosa worth building?

Lacrimosa is an S-Rank Chaos character who uses a Liquid Arc and operates as a pure on-field carry. Her basic attacks come in two forms: Tomato Metal (melee) and Tomato Percussion (ranged). You switch between them by holding the aim button, and both deal Chaos damage while stacking Nightmare on enemies up to 10 times. That Nightmare DoT has a fixed 50% Crit Rate regardless of your stats, which matters a lot for how you build her.

Her standout mechanic is Devilish Inspiration, which lets her copy an enemy's combat technique by aiming at them. Copied techniques replace her Morning Tomato skill and are stored permanently until you swap them out manually. In practice, the two most useful copies are Black Tome for single-target situations and Tomato Devil for AoE fights.

The passive you're building around is Tomato Banquet: when Discord is triggered on a target that's already Broken, Lacrimosa deals bonus damage equal to 400% of her ATK. That's a massive burst window, and it's why every good Lacrimosa team is structured to break enemies and trigger Discord as reliably as possible.

She also turns into a bat when dashing during overworld exploration, which makes getting around Hethereau City noticeably faster.

Skill upgrade priority runs Basic Attack > Ultimate > Skill > Support Skill. The majority of her damage flows through basic attack variations, so that slot should always be maxed first.

What's the best Arc for Lacrimosa?

The Last Rose is her signature Arc and the clear best-in-slot. It provides high base ATK, Crit Rate, ATK%, and a conditional Crit DMG buff that scales with how many times she deals DoT. When she attacks a Broken enemy, it also extends the Broken status by 3 seconds, which directly feeds into more Tomato Banquet procs. There's no close competition at M0.

One practical note on Youthful Fantasy: getting two copies is realistic because Daffodil can use one while Lacrimosa uses the other. If you have both characters, this is a genuinely good F2P setup rather than a compromise.

What's the best Cartridge for Lacrimosa?

Diabolos is the correct Cartridge in every scenario. The 2-piece Epic bonus gives 10% Chaos DMG, and the 4-piece Legendary bonus causes Lacrimosa to ignore 12% of enemy Chaos resistance (24% after helping inflict Nova or Scorch reactions). Chaos resistance ignore functions as a damage multiplier that's nearly impossible to replicate from other sources, making this set non-negotiable.

The Console bonus also rewards stacking Type III Modules, giving 10% Chaos DMG per Type III module equipped. Since the Diabolos set requires two Type III modules and you can equip four total, that's a potential 40% Chaos DMG bonus from modules alone.

For the main stat, Chaos DMG% is the right call. Because Nightmare DoT has a fixed 50% Crit Rate, heavy investment into Crit Rate has diminishing returns compared to raw Chaos DMG. Direct hits do benefit fully from Crit stats, so there's a narrow case for Crit on the main stat if your Crit Rate to Crit DMG ratio is badly skewed, but Chaos DMG% is the default.

Substat priority: Crit Rate > Crit DMG > Universal DMG% > ATK%

Best teams for Lacrimosa

Every strong Lacrimosa team is built around the same core logic: you need Incantation to trigger Scorch, Psyche to trigger Nova, and those two reactions combining with her Chaos element to produce Discord. Discord on a Broken enemy is when Tomato Banquet fires, so the whole team exists to create that window as often as possible.

For more context on how team structures work around the Esper Cycle, the Neverness to Everness best team compositions guide covers the full meta picture.

Lacrimosa / Daffodil / Sakiri / Fadia

This is the optimal setup. Daffodil handles Break damage and provides an additional Chaos character to help trigger Discord faster. Sakiri buffs DoT damage across the board, which directly amplifies Lacrimosa's Nightmare stacks, and Scorch triggers when you swap from Lacrimosa to Sakiri. Fadia is the S-Rank Psyche pick here, providing sustainability through her HP-oriented kit while building Esper Meter toward Nova. Check out the Sakiri build guide to get the most out of her support role in this comp.

Lacrimosa / Adler / Haniel / Edgar (or flex)

Adler covers the Incantation slot and contributes survivability. Haniel fills Psyche with solid buffs attached. Those three characters can trigger Discord reliably on their own, so the fourth slot is genuinely flexible. Edgar is a sensible default for healing. Reactions will be slower than the premium team and Tomato Banquet will proc less frequently, but the core Discord loop still functions.

Lacrimosa / Daffodil / Sakiri / Baicang

Two Chaos and two Incantation characters means the only available reaction is Scorch. Sakiri buffs all DoT, both Baicang and Lacrimosa apply different DoT stacks on top of Scorch, and the damage ceiling is real. The main friction is that both Baicang and Lacrimosa want significant field time, so rotations need testing before this comp feels clean. For players who have Baicang built, the Baicang build guide is worth reviewing to understand his field time requirements before committing to this structure.

What order should you unlock Lacrimosa's Awakenings?

Awakenings can be swapped freely in NTE, so there's no permanent commitment here. That said, some provide meaningfully more value than others, and the recommended unlock order reflects actual combat impact.

Tempered Glass Judgment is the clear first priority. The HP drain on enemies combined with self-healing and the anti-heal mechanic makes it a survivability and damage tool in one. Almighty Lord of Tomatoes extends Nightmare by a full second, which is a 20% increase in DoT uptime. Pairing those two before anything else creates a noticeably stronger baseline.

Morning Spell becomes more valuable the more you invest in Discord-focused play. At A6 specifically, it forces a Nova or Incantation reaction without spending Esper Meter, which means Discord teams get even more reliable passive triggers.

Gameplay tips that most guides skip

  • Don't hold the aim button mid-fight unless you actually intend to copy an enemy skill. Copying the wrong technique mid-rotation can break your entire encounter flow.
  • Dodge counters are unusually strong on Lacrimosa. Her counter applies 6 Nightmare DoT stacks and provides better positioning than committing to a full 5-hit normal combo against aggressive enemies.
  • When casting a monster skill with a long animation (Black Tome or Tomato Devil), swap to an ally during the animation to keep the team active without losing DPS.
  • Lacrimosa wants most of the field time, but her 3-second DoT duration means short swaps to refresh Daffodil's Phantom Step or trigger Baicang's DoT are worth doing.
