Ancient Lava is one of those Palworld materials that players spend time hunting in the wrong places. It does not come from the mainland volcano, it is not a Pal drop, and no merchant stocks it. The only source is a single guarded island with level 80 patrol drones that will ruin your run if you are not paying attention. Here is exactly where to go, how to survive the trip, and what you get for the effort.
Where is Ancient Lava found in Palworld?
Ancient Lava comes exclusively from ore nodes inside Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2, a restricted volcanic island sitting south of Sakurajima and north of Mount Obsidian. No other zone on the map produces this material, so searching the regular volcanic terrain on the mainland is a waste of time.
The nodes themselves are easy to identify once you know what to look for: large, dark rock formations with blue and purple glowing veins running through them. They are not pools or streams of lava on the ground. The glow is the tell.

Spot the blue glow to find nodes
Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2 has no fast travel point inside it, so you need to launch from one of the nearby options. Isle of Silence and Ruined Fortress City are the two practical starting points. From either location, ride a flying mount or a swimming mount across the water to reach the island. A flying mount is the better choice because it lets you scout the drone patrol paths before you land.
How to get Ancient Lava safely
The route is straightforward, but the level 80 Sentinel patrol drones make every second on the ground count. These are not enemies you want to fight unless you are significantly overleveled and built for it. Treat the searchlights as the main obstacle.
Preparation before you go
- Equip heat-resistant gear before crossing to the island. Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2 is a hot volcanic biome and the environment will chip away at you without protection.
- Bring a flying mount for scouting and fast exits.
- Have a pickaxe ready. The Plasma Multicutter is the most efficient tool for breaking Ancient Lava nodes, but any pickaxe or mining-capable tool works. Higher-quality pickaxes yield more material per node.

The mining run
- Fast travel to Isle of Silence or Ruined Fortress City.
- Mount up and fly toward Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2 from above.
- Circle the island briefly to observe the Sentinel drone patrol paths.
- Land in a gap between patrol sweeps, away from active searchlights.
- Locate the blue/purple glowing ore nodes on the raised terrain and open volcanic ground.
- Break each node with your pickaxe or Plasma Multicutter and collect the dropped Ancient Lava.
- Once your inventory is worth protecting, or if a drone closes in, mount up and exit immediately.
What can you craft with Ancient Lava?
Ancient Lava feeds directly into late-game accessories and mobility gear. The four confirmed crafting recipes are all in the armor and accessory category.
Stock up while you are already at the sanctuary. The sea crossing takes time, and running short by a few pieces of Ancient Lava when you are mid-craft is a frustrating reason to repeat the trip. Ancient Lava is not available from vendors or Pal drops, so every unit you have comes from these nodes.

What to farm after Ancient Lava
If you are working through the 1.0 rare materials, the next logical stops follow the same Wildlife Sanctuary pattern. Ancient Bark comes from Wildlife Sanctuary No. 1, and Ancient Bone drops from the desert-side sanctuary. Each follows the same approach: reach the right sanctuary, find the special node type, and respect the drone patrols.
For a broader look at where rare resources spawn across the new zones, the Palworld 1.0 rare resources locations guide covers the full picture including Soralite on floating islands and other materials tied to the endgame. If Ancient Civilization Cores are next on your list, there is a dedicated Ancient Civilization Core farming guide covering raid bosses, Oil Rigs, and Pal Expeditions.
For everything else across the 1.0 update, the full Palworld guides collection has you covered on new Pal locations, World Tree Holy Water, and more.
