Rune Dice review – Games Asylum

Rune Dice is a roguelite deckbuilder where you launch dice to trigger magical chain reactions, pick from distinct hero classes, and stack relics and runes against increasingly punishing bosses. Released on May 19, 2026 on Steam and May 5, 2026 on Xbox, the game packs 31 achievements worth 1,000 Gamerscore (Xbox) or 30 Steam achievements. At the time of writing, not a single player on TrueAchievements has a full completion, and Steam Hunters records only 1 perfect run out of 30 tracked players. This guide breaks down every unlock, flags the ones that will actually give you trouble, and points out the hidden achievements you might miss entirely.

What achievements are in Rune Dice?

The full list splits naturally into four categories: story progression, cumulative grind, single-run challenges, and Hard Mode feats. Here's every achievement with its unlock condition, sourced from TrueAchievements and Steam Hunters.

Story and progression achievements

These are the ones you'll pick up just by playing through the game's locations and boss roster.

  • First Stumble — Lose your first fight. This one unlocks itself.
  • Forest Hero — Complete the Nearby Forest location. About 66% of tracked Steam players have this, making it the most common non-trivial unlock.
  • Untangled — Defeat Arachna Webweaver. Hidden until triggered.
  • Quiet, Please — Defeat Banshee Queen. Also hidden.
  • Pyrrhic Victory — Defeat Ancient Lich, then lose the run. Hidden, and deliberately cruel.
  • Boss Buster — Defeat all bosses in a single completed run.
  • Class Explorer — Unlock five classes.
  • Full Tavern — Unlock all classes.

Cumulative grind achievements

These stack across all your completed runs, so they come naturally with time, but some have high thresholds.

Single-run challenge achievements

These are the ones that require deliberate planning within one run. Several are genuinely difficult.

  • One-Shot Wonder — Defeat every enemy with the first throw and complete the run. Only 44% of Steam players have this despite it sounding straightforward.
  • Relic Collector — Collect 12 relics in a single completed run.
  • Dice Seeker — Collect 20 dice in a single completed run.
  • Untouchable — Win a run with full HP.
  • No Thanks — Win a run while skipping all rewards.
  • Shop Skipper — Win a run without buying anything from the shop.
  • Rune Tactician — Use runes 15 times in a single completed run.
  • Combo King — Create a max dice combo of 50 with one throw and complete the run.
  • Dice Minimalist — Defeat a boss with fewer than 3 dice.
  • Relic Ascetic — Defeat a boss with fewer than 3 relics.

How do you unlock Dice Minimalist?

Dice Minimalist (worth 40 Gamerscore on Xbox) requires defeating a boss with fewer than 3 dice in your pool. The strategy here is to enter a boss fight having deliberately kept your dice count at 1 or 2. Pick a class with strong individual dice output rather than one that relies on volume. Avoid collecting extra dice from chests and rewards in the floors leading up to the boss. The achievement triggers on any boss, so target the earliest boss in a run to minimize how much you need to survive with a stripped-down pool.

Relic Ascetic follows the same logic but for relics: reach a boss fight with fewer than 3 relics equipped. Skip relic rewards in the pre-boss floors and you should hit this without much trouble.

Hard Mode achievements

These are the endgame asks. Steam Hunters shows only 2 of 18 tracked players have unlocked most Hard Mode achievements.

  • Show Stopper — Defeat The Ringmaster in Hard Mode. Hidden.
  • Rune Dicer — Defeat all bosses in Hard Mode.
  • Legendary Dicer — Unlock all 31 achievements.

For indie games in this genre, Hard Mode typically means tighter margins and fewer recovery options. Based on the available source data, Hard Mode in Rune Dice requires defeating 150 enemies across completed runs (Hardcore Hero) and taking down every boss, including The Ringmaster. The indie roguelite audience will recognize the pattern: Hard Mode is where builds that barely scraped through Normal fall apart immediately.

What's the fastest path to full completion?

Based on the achievement structure, a logical completion order looks like this:

  1. Play normal runs freely to unlock Damage Dealer, First Stumble, Forest Hero, and the boss-kill hidden achievements.
  2. Grind cumulative achievements across those same runs: Goblin Hunter, Gold Digger, Jester's Friend, Altar Ego, Chest Champion.
  3. Target single-run challenges in dedicated attempts: Dice Minimalist, Relic Ascetic, Relic Collector, Dice Seeker, One-Shot Wonder.
  4. Finish class unlocks for Class Explorer and Full Tavern.
  5. Shift to Hard Mode for Hardcore Hero, Show Stopper, and Rune Dicer.
  6. Legendary Dicer pops automatically when the other 30 are done.

The completion rate on both platforms is currently near zero, so there's no community consensus yet on optimal routing. The ordering above is based on logical difficulty progression from the achievement unlock data.
