The Restless Ghosts quest sends you across several of Ashenfall's early zones to track down four spirits and lay them to rest. None of the individual steps are especially difficult, but the quest has a few traps that can leave you stuck: the ghosts only appear at night, one requires a skill check and a spell to reach, and the final step bugs out if your inventory is full. This guide covers every location, requirement, and reward so you can finish it cleanly.

What do you need before starting Restless Ghosts?
The quest is accessible early, but a couple of requirements will stop you cold if you show up unprepared.
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Woodcutting level 20 | Needed to cut thorny vines blocking Finn's cave |
| Agility level 5 | Unlocks Windstep to cross the gap at Finn's cave |
| Air Runes (5+) | Each Windstep cast costs 5 Air Runes; bring extras |
| Food, water, repaired gear | Goblins, giant rats, and putrid rats patrol the route |
| 4 free inventory slots | Required when opening the reward pack at the end |
Windstep is not strictly mandatory. You can build a platform across the gap at Finn's cave if you'd rather skip the Agility requirement entirely. Either approach works, so pick whichever suits your current progression.
How do you start Restless Ghosts and get the Ghostspeak Amulet?
Head to Bramblemead and find the Crumbling Well among the ruined buildings slightly northwest of the Wise Old Man. Interacting with the well picks up the Ghostspeak Amulet, which slots into your quest item tab automatically.
The amulet lets you understand what the spirits are saying. Without it equipped, their dialogue won't make sense and the quest won't progress. Your first objective after collecting it is simply to find a ghost and speak to them. Warren is right next to the well, so he's the natural first stop.
Where are all four ghost locations?
Here's a quick reference before the detailed breakdown:
- Warren: Ruined village walls southwest of the Crumbling Well
- Lazina: Ruined house beside the windmill in Temple Woods
- Finn: Inside a raised cave southeast of the Wise Old Man in Bramblemead
- Kay: Ruined house along the southern edge of Whispering Swamp
Warren: ruined village southwest of the well
From the Crumbling Well, walk southwest through the same ruined settlement where you picked up the amulet. Warren's blue spirit stands among the broken stone walls on the southwestern side of the village. This is the shortest walk of the four locations, barely a minute from the quest start.
Speak to Warren until you learn his name. His dialogue mentions blades that have stopped turning, which points directly toward the windmill in Temple Woods where Lazina is waiting.
Lazina: Temple Woods windmill
Return to the tutorial area and locate the windmill on your map. If you're approaching from Vannaka's original tent, head uphill toward it. The ruined house you want is immediately beside the windmill structure, not inside it.
Talk to Lazina to get her name and hear the clue about her brother, which redirects you back toward Bramblemead for Finn.
Finn: Bramblemead cave (the tricky one)
This is the step that trips up most players. Travel southeast from the Wise Old Man toward the cliffs at Bramblemead's edge. A small cave opening sits above ground level in the cliff face. A lit torch near the entrance helps you spot it at night.
To get inside:
- Approach the gap in front of the cave entrance.
- Cast Windstep and jump toward the raised ledge, or place building pieces to bridge the gap.
- Once on the ledge, equip your logging axe and cut through the thorny vines blocking the entrance.
- Walk to the back of the cave and speak to Finn.

Kay: Whispering Swamp southern edge
Enter Whispering Swamp from the northeastern side of Bramblemead, taking the passage beneath the goblin hideout. Once inside, keep to the right and follow the outer edge of the swamp rather than cutting through the middle.
The ruined house you're looking for sits along the southern boundary facing Bramblemead. Kay's blue spirit appears inside. The swamp fog can make it look like daytime even when it isn't, so if you find the building but Kay isn't there, double-check that night has actually started.
Clear any nearby putrid rats before talking to Kay. Getting interrupted mid-conversation is annoying and can leave the dialogue in a broken state.
Where is the Remembrance Shrine?
After speaking to all four ghosts and learning their names, return to Temple Woods. The Remembrance Shrine (a flower-filled vase) sits in the graveyard on the western side of the starting church.
If you have a Lodestone set up near the starting temple, you can teleport back using Law Runes to save time on the return trip.
Interact with the shrine and select the remembrance option for each spirit in turn:
- Warren
- Lazina
- Finn
- Kay
If any name is missing from the list, that ghost's conversation wasn't fully completed. Head back to their location at night and finish the dialogue before returning.
What rewards does Restless Ghosts give you?
Completing the quest awards the Restless Ghosts Reward Pack. Open it with at least 4 free inventory slots to collect the contents, which include XP tomes for skill progression.
Hold onto the Ghostspeak Amulet after you're done. It carries over to follow-up quests including Even More Restless Ghosts and What Remains is Written, so dropping or selling it will cost you time later.
With all four spirits at rest, the quest wraps up cleanly and you're free to push into harder content.
