Weapons & Mods / The Division Zone

The Caduceus arrived in Tom Clancy's The Division 2 with Y8S2 Into the Dark, and it does something no other exotic assault rifle in the game does: it heals your entire squad every time you land a critical hit. Premium battle pass owners already have it waiting in their stash. Free pass players unlock it later in the season by climbing the reward track. Either way, the weapon is only as good as the build around it, and getting that build wrong means leaving a lot of free healing on the table.

What makes the Caduceus exotic work?

The Caduceus is an exotic assault rifle with Assault Rifle Damage and Health Damage locked into its first two core attribute slots. The third slot rolls randomly, but you can adjust it at the Tinkering Station if the roll doesn't suit your playstyle.

Its fixed attachments are built entirely around critical hits:

The exotic talent, also called Caduceus, repairs you and any nearby allies for 3% of each critical hit's dealt damage. That number scales with two things: how often you crit (frequency of healing ticks) and how hard you hit (size of each tick). Miss shots and the talent does nothing. Fire accurately and keep your crit stats high, and your squad stays topped up through sustained engagements without anyone needing to dedicate a skill slot to a pure healer.

What's the best gear loadout for the Caduceus?

The build centers on Striker's Battlegear with Unit Alloys pieces filling the support slots. The priority order for stats across every piece is: crit chance, crit damage, assault rifle damage, and rate of fire. Armor is intentionally deprioritized since the Caduceus talent covers survivability through healing.

The Palisade Steelworks chest is the stronger pick if you can consistently trigger the two-piece bonus. The Equalizer is worth considering if you prefer a faster damage ramp through Perfect Obliterate's stacking buff.

Which skills work best with this build?

Because the loadout ignores armor, both skill slots should act as a safety net rather than extra damage tools.

  • Reviver Hive: Brings you back from a down state, which matters when a fight turns against you and the crit healing can't keep pace with incoming damage.
  • Defender Drone: Deflects and reduces incoming fire, buying enough time for the Caduceus talent to top you back up between bursts.

For specialization, Gunner is the right call for a DPS-forward setup like this. If you haven't finished the specialization tree yet, put points into assault rifle damage first before branching out.

How do you know the build is actually working?

The most obvious sign is your health bar ticking upward mid-fight as you land crits. Allies nearby will receive the same passive repairs during sustained fire. If the healing feels weak, the problem is almost always one of two things: crit chance is too low (the talent isn't triggering often enough) or you're missing shots (no crit, no heal).

Check your crit chance rolls across every gear piece and make sure you're landing hits consistently. The 15% combined crit chance from the Caduceus's own attachments is a solid baseline, but the gear rolls are where you push that number into reliable territory.

Building around the Caduceus in the wider season

The Caduceus isn't the only thing worth chasing in Y8S2. The season also introduces Prototype Gear through Escalation mode, which can add meaningful stat layers on top of a crit build like this one. Escalation itself has its own tier structure and mutator system worth understanding before you commit resources.

If you're still working on gear proficiency to unlock better rolls for your Caduceus pieces, the Proficiency XP leveling guide covers the fastest routes through Summit, Countdown, and the Tinkering Station.

For everything else the season has to offer, the full Division 2 guide collection covers Escalation tiers, exotic weapons, Hunter masks, and more.
