The Division 2 Dust Storm Event Guide: Keys, Bosses, and Rewards

The Dust Storm event is live in Tom Clancy's The Division 2 and runs until August 11. The event drops you into a sandstorm-battered New York where visibility drops, enemies ambush you mid-storm, and a new faction called the Dust Devils hunts you down. There are cosmetics, exotic items, and prototype gear on the line, and the whole thing is built around farming Storm Keys to spend at the event vendor. If you haven't touched the Warlords of New York expansion yet, the event also unlocks it for free while it's active.

How does the Dust Storm event work?

Before you can participate in any of the event activities, you need to complete the Warlords of New York expansion. Once that's done, dust storms become the dominant weather system across New York. There are two storm states, and understanding both changes how you approach combat.

Calm Dust Storm vs. Raging Dust Storm

The Calm Dust Storm is the baseline weather during the event. It reduces visibility for both you and enemies, which keeps fights more manageable. After 18 minutes, it escalates into the Raging Dust Storm, which lasts 8 minutes and cuts long-range visibility to almost nothing. During a Raging storm, enemy ambushes become a real threat because you simply can't see them coming.

When the Raging storm ends, weather either clears to sunny conditions or resets back to a Calm Dust Storm. Every time you log in, all storm timers reset, so you can control which weather state you start in.

Who are the Dust Devils?

The Dust Devils are a Rikers faction that spawns specifically to exploit the storm conditions. Every 6 minutes, a Dust Devil skill squad spawns as a group of 4 named enemies with one goal: hunting you down. These enemies carry modifiers, some of which work in your favor and some that don't, so reading the active modifiers before engaging is worth the two seconds it takes.

Once you clear enough of these squads, the event escalates further. After accumulating 50 common enemy kills, a boss spawns. At that point, you can call for backup before engaging.

The two event bosses: Pall and Black Lung

There are two bosses tied to the Dust Storm event: Pall and Black Lung. Both can appear in any weather condition once you hit the 50-kill threshold. Defeating either boss for the first time rewards you with a Storm Key and a unique mask. After that first kill, they continue to drop Storm Keys on subsequent defeats.

How to farm Storm Keys efficiently

Storm Keys are the event currency, and you'll need a steady supply to work through the vendor rewards. There are three ways to earn them:

• Defeat Dust Devil skill squads
• Defeat Pall or Black Lung (the event bosses)
• Defeat the Scoured Hunter, an elite enemy that spawns randomly after a Raging Dust Storm ends

The number of kills required to earn a key drops with higher difficulty settings:

The most important thing to know: your first 150 kills each day have their key requirements cut in half. That daily bonus alone makes logging in every day worth it, even for a short session.

Hidden caches across New York

There are 20 hidden caches scattered across New York during the event. To get rewards from them, you need to destroy the cache rather than simply looting it. Dust Devils will repair caches over time, so you can return to the same locations and farm them repeatedly. Finding them during active storms is tough, but you can track them by sound if you pay attention.

What rewards can you get from the Dust Storm event?

The event vendor accepts Storm Keys in exchange for two types of caches: Apparel Caches and Gear Caches. Each has its own reward pool.

Apparel Cache rewards

All apparel rewards are full outfit sets or individual cosmetic pieces:

• Wired Outfit (headgear, shirt, pants, shoes)
• Vagabond Outfit (glasses, shirt, pants, boots)
• Parched Outfit (headgear, shirt, gloves, pants, shoes)
• Breathless Outfit (headgear, shirt, gloves, pants, boots)
• Breathless (Grey) Outfit (headgear, shirts, gloves, pants, boots)
• Yield Outfit (headgear, shirt, pants, shoes)
• Parched Headgear (Black/Red, Green, and Orange variants)
• Black Lung Headgear (Black/Red, Green, and Orange variants)

Gear Cache rewards

Gear Caches have tiered drop rates. Here's the full breakdown:

The Prototype Rabid D50 and Prototype Gear Set are the hardest pulls at 1% and 0.5% respectively, so expect to open a lot of Gear Caches before seeing those. The 20% Special Named Items rate is the most reliable path to useful gear drops.

Community challenges

Beyond individual rewards, there are community challenges running alongside the event. These unlock additional rewards once the player base collectively hits specific goals. Keep an eye on progress through the event menu, as these rewards are separate from anything you can buy with Storm Keys.
