Tom Clancy's The Division 2 received updated Escalation token rewards with the Y8S2 Into the Dark season. The distribution has shifted slightly across all tiers, and the risk-reward balance now leans more favorably toward whoever starts the run. Escalation remains the primary path to Prototype gear, so understanding exactly what you earn at each tier before committing tokens is worth your time.

The table below covers every tier from 0 to 10, including the upfront cost, what the run leader earns, the net profit after paying the entry cost, what group members receive, and how many Exotics drop at each tier.

How does leader profit scale across tiers?
The profit gap between what the leader spends and what they earn widens steadily. At Tier 1, the leader nets 4 tokens after paying 1. By Tier 10, that profit climbs to 22 tokens on an 80-token investment. The percentage return actually decreases as you climb (Tier 1 gives a 400% return; Tier 10 gives roughly 27%), but the raw token gain is highest at the top. If your goal is accumulating tokens quickly, running at the highest tier you can clear is the right call.
Group members always earn less than the leader, but their rewards scale too: from 1 token at Tier 0 up to 11 at Tier 10. Group members pay no entry cost, so every token they receive is pure gain.
When do Exotic drops start in Escalation?
Exotics only appear from Tier 5 onward. At Tier 5, you get 1 Exotic drop. Tier 6 and Tier 7 each yield 2. Tiers 8 and 9 both offer 3. Tier 10 tops out at 4 Exotic drops per run. If farming Exotics is your priority, Tier 7 or Tier 8 tends to be the sweet spot: the token cost is manageable and the Exotic count is competitive.

What changed in Y8S2 compared to Y8S1?
The token rewards have been redistributed across tiers in Y8S2. The core structure stays the same (leader pays, leader profits more, group members get a flat payout), but the specific numbers at each tier have shifted. The changes make the early tiers slightly more rewarding relative to their cost, while the upper tiers maintain a strong but not overwhelming advantage for leaders willing to invest.

Is Escalation worth running in Y8S2?
For Prototype gear farming, yes. No other mode in Y8S2 Into the Dark delivers the same density of high-quality loot per run. The updated token distribution makes the leader role more rewarding than it was, and group members continue to benefit without any upfront cost. The Exotic drop rate at Tiers 8 through 10 makes those runs genuinely worth organizing.
