Fate of the Prophets is one of Windrose's more involved side quests, sitting at a recommended level of 14-15. It kicks off in the Cursed Swamps biome after you solve the Stargazer Tower puzzle. Because Windrose uses procedural world generation, the exact map position of the tower shifts between playthroughs, so thorough exploration of the swamp is the only reliable way to track it down. Once you crack that first puzzle, the quest opens up and sends you after three ancient observatories.
The story behind the quest is worth paying attention to. Three stargazers were imprisoned inside their observatories by the warlord Chick-Chan after they predicted misfortune for his reign. Their prophecies proved accurate, and Chick-Chan eventually drowned in a nearby swamp. Now the quest asks you to read each stargazer's account and then find the warlord's remains, which have transformed into something far more dangerous than a waterlogged corpse.
How to explore the ancient observatories
The quest has three observatory objectives, each tied to one of the stargazers' written accounts. Look for Mayan-style pyramid ruins when navigating the swamp; the structures are distinctive enough that you will not mistake them for regular ruins. Your map will show quest markers for each location once the quest is active.
The three stories you need to collect are:
- Story of the First Stargazer (found inside the Stargazer Tower)
- Story of the Second Stargazer (found in an Ancient Observatory southeast of the Stargazer Tower, according to Destructoid's walkthrough)
- Story of the Third Stargazer (found in a third observatory to the north)
For each site, clear the enemies in the surrounding area before attempting the puzzle. Enemies left alive can interrupt you at the worst moments.
info
Every observatory contains a chest in addition to the Observatory Stele. Loot both before leaving. Skipping the chest is the most common mistake players make when rushing through this quest.

Stargazer Tower entrance puzzle
How do you solve the observatory puzzles?
All three observatory entrances follow the same mechanic. Two dials sit on either side of the doorway. Rotate each dial until its constellation symbol matches the corresponding symbol displayed above the entrance. The symbols are static per observatory, so there is no randomization here: look up, note the required constellation, then spin the dial to match it. Once both dials are aligned, the door opens and you can reach the inner sanctum to interact with the Observatory Stele.
The puzzle logic is consistent across all three sites, so once you understand it at the first observatory, the remaining two take significantly less time.
How to find the warlord's death site
After reading all three stargazer accounts, exit the final observatory and follow the quest marker into the Tainted Forest zone. This area accelerates Wood Plague buildup, so equip a Sun Ring before heading in. The Sun Ring slows Wood Plague accumulation, which matters a lot when you need your full attention on the boss fight ahead.
warning
Do not enter the Tainted Forest without managing your Wood Plague resistance first. The buildup in this zone is fast enough to become a serious problem mid-fight if you ignore it.
How do you defeat Chick-Chan?
Chick-Chan is the mutated remains of the warlord, transformed into a plague monstrosity. The boss has a large health pool, so the fight runs longer than most encounters at this level. The key mechanic is targeting the orange blisters scattered across Chick-Chan's body. Both ranged and melee attacks work: shoot or slash the blisters to stun the boss, then follow up with your heaviest damage during the stun window.
Stock healing items before engaging. Chick-Chan's attacks deal consistent damage over a long fight, and running dry on consumables mid-encounter is the main reason players fail here. The stun windows from destroying blisters are your safest opportunities to deal burst damage, so prioritize them over reckless aggression.
info
Chick-Chan is not the hardest boss in Windrose, but its health pool means the fight takes longer than expected. Patience and consistent blister targeting will get you through it cleanly.
Fate of the Prophets rewards
Defeating Chick-Chan completes the quest and awards 10 Tumbaga Ingots. As noted in both Deltia's Gaming and Destructoid's coverage, Tumbaga Ingots are scarce through regular exploration, making this reward particularly useful for crafting and upgrading advanced gear. If you are pushing into higher-tier equipment, this quest is worth completing before you need the ingots rather than after.
