Somewhere in each of Control Resonant's major zones, a driverless yellow cab is honking its horn and flashing its lights at you. These aren't just set dressing. Step inside one and you'll be pulled into a threshold realm where a woman named Mila is trapped, and the only way out is to solve a series of visual logic puzzles. There are 7 taxis total, one per zone, and tracking them all down is the backbone of the "The Last Taxi" side quest in CONTROL Resonant. Here's every location and every puzzle solution.
Each taxi operates the same way on the surface. Get close enough and you'll hear it honking; the passenger door swings open as an invitation. Step inside and the world shifts. You're now in a shadowy, paranatural version of New York that feels like something out of a fever dream. Follow the indicator to a back alley, pick up the payphone to hear from Mila, then head to the main street to tackle three rounds of puzzles.
The puzzles almost always follow the same logic: find the taxi that's different from all the others. The specific detail that sets it apart changes with each zone and each round, but that core principle holds. A green light means you picked correctly; a red light sends you back to try again. Complete all three rounds and you're returned to the map.
| Zone | Location Details | Ability Required |
|---|---|---|
| Central | Northwesternmost alleyway, west across rooftops from the Patterned Factory | None |
| West Incursion Zone | On the wall beside the Empire theater, near Empire Avenue Station | Shift |
| Evacuation Zone | Dead-end alleyway northeast of the "Unauthorized mines?" map label, go east | None |
| Downtown | East side near Lookout Point, head north after crossing via Reach | Reach |
| The Park | Parking garage, one floor below the vendor's ice cream truck | None |
| Underpass | Northeast corner of the mold-enemy area, on an elevated platform past the cable car | Quest progress |
| Unknown | Southernmost island, right side of the Evac Building | None |
When you're hunting any of these down, the honking is your best friend. The taxis are persistent about getting your attention, and you'll hear the horn before you see the cab. They also appear on the minimap once you're close enough, so keep an eye on both.

Control Resonant Guide: All Taxi Locations & Puzzle Solutions
The Central taxi is the one most players hit first, and its puzzle is the most forgiving introduction to the quest's logic.
Here the puzzle shifts focus from the cabs themselves to the streetlights above them.
This zone tests your ability to read blinking patterns rather than simple on/off states.
Downtown's puzzle focuses on the rooftop taxi signs and how they react to your proximity.
The Park breaks from the light-watching formula entirely. Here the taxi is broken and buried under Mold, and you need to physically rebuild it.
This puzzle pairs the streetlights with the taxi headlights in a call-and-response pattern.
The Unknown zone's puzzle is the most disorienting of the seven. You're given a light source to carry, and the twist is that the shadows don't behave correctly. Most taxis cast shadows shaped like something other than a taxi.
Honestly? Not much in terms of immediate rewards. There are no items or currency dropped when the quest closes out. The payoff is narrative closure for Mila's story and, more practically, one of three requirements for the "Threshold Researcher" achievement. The other two are the "Crossing the Threshold" side quest and the "Unsupervised Science" side quest.
If you're chasing 100% completion, this quest is non-negotiable. If you're just playing through the story, it's worth doing for the atmosphere alone: the threshold realms are some of the stranger spaces Remedy has built, and the shadow puzzle in the Unknown zone is a genuine surprise.
For more side content across Manhattan, the CONTROL Resonant guides collection covers everything from puzzle solutions to keycard locations. If you've been working through the zone-specific puzzles, the Downtown coffee shop appliances puzzle solution and the Central Laundry binary washing machine puzzle are two more hidden rewards worth grabbing. And if you've been exploring the karaoke section, the full karaoke answer list to save every dancer is the fastest way to lock in that trophy without guessing.
