Armand is the first real wall most players hit in Mina the Hollower, and the frustrating part is that the fight looks completely unfair on the surface. His health bar is enormous, your attacks barely register, and his hammer swings can chunk your health fast if you stand still. The good news: there's a single environmental trick that flips the entire fight, and once you know it, Armand goes from nightmare to pushover.
How do you trigger the Armand boss fight?
Armand doesn't announce himself. You stumble into his fight by shopping at Legovich's Arms, the weapons shop in Ossex. The first item you buy goes through fine. Try to purchase a second item and you'll get an angry refusal note from Armand instead. Follow the note's trail by burrowing through the hole at the top-right of the shop floor, and you'll drop into his hidden lair beneath the building.

If you've already lost a Spark down there on a previous attempt, that's a strong reason to head back and finish the job. Sparks are a core resource, and leaving one behind in the basement is genuinely painful.
Why does Armand take almost no damage?
Armand has a physical resistance that makes every hit deal next to nothing, essentially 1 damage per strike, until you remove it. This is why players who go in swinging feel like they're fighting a brick wall. The resistance isn't a stat you can out-level or work around with better weapons. You have to use the environment.
The fix is lava. At the top of the basement room sit two lava pools that feed the brothers' furnaces. Burrow underground and redirect one of those lava pools so it flows out across the floor. When Armand walks through it, he glows orange, his resistance drops, and he starts taking full damage from every hit.

What's the best weapon to use against Armand?
Once Armand is standing in lava and taking full damage, almost any weapon works. That said, the Nightstar has a practical edge here. It's slower than Whisper or Vesper, but its range lets you attack from a distance, which matters when you're trying to stay out of the lava you just spread across the floor.
The Nightstar being slower is a non-issue once Armand's resistance is stripped. You're dealing full damage regardless, so the extra range is worth more than raw attack speed in this arena.
How to handle Armand's attacks
Armand's move set includes a Hammer swing, a Kick, a Stomp, projectiles, and an Anvil attack. None of these are particularly complex to dodge once you know they're coming.
- Hammer and Kick: Keep your distance. These are melee-range attacks, so staying back removes most of the threat.
- Stomp: Burrowing underground lets you pass through this cleanly. If you're already underground redirecting lava, you're naturally safe.
- Projectiles: Move sideways. Armand's projectile attacks track toward Mina's position, so lateral movement is usually enough.

The key rhythm is: redirect lava, pull Armand into it, attack from range, dodge when he moves toward you, repeat. Don't overcommit. Armand's attacks hit hard enough that trading hits while he's in lava is still a losing proposition.
What do you get for beating Armand?
After the fight, Armand hands over the weapon you originally tried to buy. More importantly, Legovich's Arms reopens at full inventory. The catch: the remaining three weapons and upgrades now cost 2,500 Bones each rather than the original 2,000 Bones, a 25% price increase. Given how frequently Bones drop throughout the game, this isn't a serious obstacle, but it's worth knowing before you go in expecting the original prices.
There's no trinket reward from Armand directly, but having access to the full weapon shop this early in the game more than compensates.

The whole fight comes down to one thing: get him in lava. Everything else, the dodging, the weapon choice, the attack patterns, only matters after you've stripped his resistance. Players who spend 10 attempts beating their head against Armand's health bar without the lava trick are doing it the hard way.
Burrow to redirect a lava pool, lure Armand through it, switch to Nightstar if you have it, and attack from range while he glows orange. The fight ends quickly once that setup is in place.
