Mimog is one of the more devious Pals in Palworld. It sits completely still, disguised as a treasure chest, and the moment you get close or strike it, it bolts at a speed that will leave most mounts eating dust. That trick makes it annoying to catch, but it also makes it one of the most rewarding Pals to hunt. Catching enough of them earns you the Mimog Effigy, which permanently boosts your movement speed. What is the Mimog Effigy and how do you get it?
The Mimog Effigy is a Key Item introduced in the Palworld 1.0 update. Unlike other effigies scattered across the map on small plinths, you earn this one through captures rather than exploration.
The mechanic is straightforward: catch 5 Pals of the same species and you complete the Catch Bonus for that species. Once you hit 5, you receive one Mimog Effigy. You can track your progress in the lower-right corner of the screen after each capture. Each species only rewards one effigy total, so catching a sixth Lamball does nothing. To collect more effigies, move on to a different species and repeat the process.

The most efficient approach is to equip the Ring of Mercy, which always leaves Pals at 1 HP, then sweep through starter areas catching everything in sight. You get solid XP from the first 5 captures of any species, so this doubles as a leveling method.
How do you spend Mimog Effigies?
Take your Mimog Effigies to a Statue of Power. These appear in the ruined churches scattered across the map, but you can also build one at your base using 20 Stone and 10 Paldium Fragments. The Statue of Power unlocks at base Level 9.
Once you interact with the statue, scroll down to the bottom of the upgrade list. The Movement Speed option sits at the very bottom. Each Mimog Effigy you spend here adds a passive movement speed bonus that stacks over time. It will not replace a fast flying mount, but the bonus is always active and accumulates with every effigy you spend, making it worth grinding across multiple species.

How do you catch Mimog without it escaping?
Mimog's escape speed is genuinely fast. Running up to interact with what looks like a chest and watching it sprint into the distance is a rite of passage, but it is also completely avoidable once you know the pattern.
Before you go hunting, prepare these:
- A fast flying mount (Jetragon or Faleris are the top options)
- High-tier Pal Spheres such as Hyper Spheres or Ancient Spheres
- The Ring of Mercy to prevent accidental kills
- An Ice-type or Electric-type Pal for crowd control

Step-by-step capture process
- Scan the terrain from your mount. Mimog looks like a stationary treasure chest, but it tends to appear in open spots away from normal loot locations, such as beside roads, rocks, or ruins.
- Once you spot a suspicious chest, do not walk up and interact with it manually. That triggers its instant-flee script.
- Position yourself at range and land a quick ranged attack to initiate combat before it can react.
- Deploy an Ice or Electric Pal immediately to freeze or stun it. Mimog's flee speed is high enough that crowd control is the difference between a clean capture and a long chase.
- While it is stunned, throw your highest-grade Pal Sphere.
- If it breaks free and sprints, mount your flying Pal and chase it down. Mimog will eventually pause, giving you another window.
Breeding is also an option once you have two Mimogs. Place them in a Breeding Farm, transfer the resulting egg to an Egg Incubator, and hatch a fresh one without any chasing required. Keep in mind that hatched or bred Mimogs do not drop Dog Coins when butchered. That currency only comes from wild encounters.
What are the best Mimog locations for Dog Coins?
Mimog drops Dog Coins every time you defeat or capture a wild one, and the amount scales directly with the Mimog's level. This makes location selection the single biggest factor in how efficiently you farm the currency.
For endgame players, the World Tree is the clear answer. Multiple Mimog spawn groups sit between Level 70 and Level 80, and a single Level 80 Mimog can drop 170–250 Dog Coins before any item-drop bonus applies. A full circuit through the World Tree sectors covering cliffs, ruins, lava channels, and open terrain can hit several of these spawns in one run.
For players not yet at the World Tree, Yamijima and the Sky Islands are the next best options. Sakurajima works fine for midgame, with Level 50 Mimog dropping around 80–120 Dog Coins each.

Keep Katress or Blazehowl Noct in your party. Both have Partner Skills that increase item drops from defeated Neutral Pals, and Mimog is a Neutral type. The bonus scales with the Pal's rank:

- Rank 2: +50%
- Rank 3: +60%
- Rank 4: +70%
- Rank 5: +80%
These bonuses do not stack, so carrying both Pals at once does not double the effect. A Rank 5 Katress is the most accessible option since Katress is easier to obtain than Blazehowl Noct.
Fastest Dog Coin farming setup
Once you have the right gear, a Mimog farming run comes down to covering ground quickly and not letting targets escape. Here is the full setup:
- Party: Katress or Blazehowl Noct at the highest rank you have
- Mount: Fast flying Pal to cover spawn areas and chase fleeing targets
- Weapon: High-damage ranged weapon for an immediate opening hit
- Accessory: Ring of Mercy to keep Mimog alive for capture when a clean kill is uncertain
- Spheres: Hyper or Ancient Spheres for reliable capture rate
- Armor: Heat Resistant or Cold Resistant gear depending on your chosen farming zone
- Inventory: Clear space for Dog Coins, Gold Coins, Training Manuals, and other Mimog drops
