How do you get started in the diner?

The Outskirts is where Silver Pines throws you in cold. You wake up in a diner with no weapon, no map, and no idea what the guest number for the motel gate is. The area is larger than it looks on first pass, and the game hides keys, mementos, and inventory upgrades behind steps that are easy to miss if you're moving too fast. This guide covers every pickup, every code, and the tunnel boss so you can clear the Outskirts without unnecessary backtracking.

How do you get started in the diner?

The moment you gain control, grab the car keys off the table where you woke up. Head left through the bathroom door and pick up the ring box from the sink before leaving. Back in the kitchen, check the counter near the radio to find both a stamina upgrade and the diner key hanging above the radio. That key unlocks the front door.

Once outside, interact with the ringing payphone to save your game. Check the coin return slot before you leave because it holds a free coin. Head to the back of the car, pop the trunk with the car key, and collect your case file, camera, and notes. There is a healing item on the nearby picnic table worth grabbing before you move on.

What is the motel gate code and how do you find it?

Walk down and right from the diner to find the first notice board map, then continue toward the Crimson Bear Motel. You cannot enter the motel gate without a guest number. Head into the motel office, read the post-it note on the wall, and note that you need to visit the General Store to get the check-in key.

Before heading to the General Store, go left toward the signs for the General Store and Pharmacy. Enter the Pharmacy first and pick up the underpass key from the shelf in the back room. The lock in there can be shot open later once you have a gun, so keep that in mind.

With the underpass key, backtrack toward the motel, take the left path, and unlock the underpass gate. Walk through to the General Store.

What is the General Store freezer code?

Inside the General Store, go behind the counter and into the office. A note on the wall explains the freezer code formula: combine 23 with the current date. Check the calendar on the wall to confirm the date, then enter 2311 at the freezer. Inside, press Spacebar to dodge the hanging carcasses and collect the check-in key from the bag on the table.

Your first enemy appears here. Without a weapon at this point, dodge past it and run out of the freezer.

On the way back toward the motel, pick up the box cutter near the fence where the dog was barking. Equip it from your inventory as your first melee weapon.

Back in the motel office, break through the barrier past the bell counter and use the check-in key to open the check-in desk. Inside, you will find Eddie's guest number. Return to the motel gate and enter 24246 to unlock it.

How do you get the revolver in the motel gift shop?

Once through the motel gate, walk left to find the second map on the exterior of the gift shop. Head inside and note the locked safe containing a gun. It needs a 4-digit code you do not have yet.

Go down to the basement. Near the stairs, pick up the note about the fusebox. In the basement, interact with the board on the wall to reveal a hidden palm tree door, then continue right to collect the fuse from the workbench.

Leave the gift shop and find the fuse box to the right. Insert the fuse into the bottom slot and flip all three switches to restore power. Enter the Games building next door.

How do you win the BB gun game?

Inside the Games building, collect BBs from the dispenser at the counter, then interact with the BB gun on the left side. You need to hit all four targets. Reload by pressing M1, and remember the gun must be cocked after each shot, so press M1 twice to fire again. Winning gives you the poolside key from the prize dispenser.

There is also an inventory upgrade hidden in the Games building: break the lock off the door to the right, crawl through the vent inside, and find the hip bag in the large crate at the end.

How do you get the gun locker code?

Unlock the poolside gate with the key. In the pool area, go upstairs and use the Grizzly Suite keycard once you have it. To get the keycard, enter room 5, read the note near the bed, then break through the barrier, drop through the floor hole, go left, and climb through the vent to grab the Cleaning Solution from the cart. Then go to the changing room, find the hanging shirt, and take the Grizzly Suite keycard.

Inside the Grizzly Suite, collect the revolver from the chair. In the bedroom, open the guitar case for the Torn Polaroid. Find the booklet on the shelf in the back room, which tells you how to call another guest.

Call 58883 from any payphone (costs one coin) to reach the woman in room 3. She gives you the gun locker code: 6671. Head back to the gift shop safe and enter that code to claim the weapon stored inside.

How do you clean the door knob from the pool?

Climb down the ladder into the drained pool. On the right side, use the pool net (found in the Grizzly Suite back room) to reach the object inside the hole. Combine the grimy object with the Cleaning Solution in your inventory to get a usable door knob.

Return to the gift shop basement and place the door knob in the palm tree door uncovered earlier. Walk left through the passage until you hit the light switch to enter the Rabbit Hole club.

What collectibles are in the Outskirts underpass?

The underpass holds two collectibles that are easy to walk past. After breaking through the white barrier, go through the padlock gate near the open manhole and break the wooden barrier at the end to find a yellow toolbox containing the Switchblade Cufflink memento, which makes melee attacks 30% faster.

From the same path, exit the door just above the wooden barrier and follow the ramp down to find the hanging wind chime, which is a Memento Slot Piece. There is also a stamina upgrade in the Shack to the right of the Burning Man at the end of the underpass path.

For a full breakdown of every collectible location across the game, the Silver Pines all 25 Memento locations guide covers every perk and where to find it.

How do you beat the tunnel boss?

Before reaching the Ferry Station, you face a mandatory boss in the tunnel. The creature drops from the ceiling in stages. The first sighting is a warning only and will not damage you. Watch for crumbling rocks on the ceiling as the signal that it is about to swing down. Dodge the swing, then hit it while it hangs.

As the fight progresses, the creature summons shadow monsters on the ground. One hit each is enough to clear them, but do not ignore them since they will chip your health if you let them pile up.

Defeating the boss earns the Corroded Iron Ball memento from its body, which reduces incoming damage by 10%. You also unlock the "In a Heartbeat" achievement for surviving the ambush.

What is in the Rabbit Hole and how do you leave the Outskirts?

Inside the Rabbit Hole, speak to the bartender twice and the man beside the bar. Sit at the table on the left and watch the show. After it ends, hit the light switch on the bar. The Chipped Ceramic Bear memento is available here and increases your stamina. Check the desk for a flyer that reveals your next destination: the gondola downtown. Pick up the ferry station keys from under the flyer.

Head back toward the Ferry Station. Stop at the payphone in front of the motel to answer and save. In the Ferry Station, break through the white barrier on the left to find an inventory upgrade hanging on a step ladder. Pet the cat for the "Moment of Calm" achievement. Use the control panel to call the ferry, then board it and interact with the panel to cross to Downtown.
