Silver Pines throws its most puzzle-dense area at you in Downtown. Between a metal bird cage that needs three colored statuettes, a ship control panel with a specific button sequence, a blown ferry fuse, and a boat engine missing its gear box, it is easy to lose an hour backtracking without knowing what you are looking for. This guide covers every Downtown puzzle in order, with exact item locations and step-by-step solutions so you can keep moving.

How to solve the bird cage puzzle in the Quiet Hours Cafe

The metal bird cage sits inside the Quiet Hours Cafe on Market Street. It has three color-coded sockets, and each one accepts a matching Bird Statuette. Inserting all three opens the cage and rewards you with the Smooth Stone With A Hole Memento.

Where to find all three bird statuettes

The statuettes are scattered across Downtown, and none of them are in the same building as the cage.

Red Bird Statuette is the easiest to grab first. Head to the Friendly Paws Veterinary Clinic on the main road. Walk to the right side of the room and pick it up off the moving medical trolley. Carry it back to the Cafe and slot it into the red socket before moving on.

Yellow Bird Statuette is inside the Movie Theater lobby. Head past the Riverside road sign, enter the theater, and take the statuette from the front counter. While you are there, the vending machine sells a Projector Room Key that unlocks the Nail Gun upstairs, so pick that up if you need the firepower.

Silver Bird Statuette requires the most legwork. Head northwest past The Rabbit Hole Bar and Restaurant toward the caravan area. Talk to the digging man, drop down the ledge, and climb up the far side. Look up and you will see a ladder held in place by a padlock. Shoot the padlock with your handgun to drop the ladder, climb up, and collect the Silver Bird Statuette from the bird's nest at the top.

Return to the Cafe with all three pieces and place each statuette into its matching colored socket. The cage opens immediately.

What do you get for completing the bird cage puzzle?

Solving the bird cage rewards the Smooth Stone With A Hole Memento. Mementos provide passive bonuses when equipped, so this is worth collecting even if the puzzle seems optional.

If you are hunting every collectible in the game, the complete memento locations guide covers all 25 mementos and their perk effects so you do not miss anything missable.

How to open the Cable Car Station bell booth

The path to the Cable Car Station is blocked by a burning vehicle on the main road. To get around it, drop through the water ledge near the shutter shortcut, sneak through the enemy tunnel by crouching, and emerge on the far side of Downtown.

Inside the Cable Car Station lobby, pick up the Broken Plaque from the bench. Head upstairs to the platform and interact with the bell booth on the right. Place the Broken Plaque into the recessed slot at the top of the booth. Once it is seated, you can take the Riverside Bridge Key hanging directly beneath the letter A. That key opens the locked gate on Market Street leading to Riverside.

What is the ship control panel button code?

At the water docks, board the large Ship by climbing over its exterior cabin and breaking through the barricaded doorway with your crowbar. Inside the cabin, you will find an interactive console with a red light and a grid of buttons next to a fixed control note.

The correct sequence is:

  1. Bottom-Left button
  2. Bottom-Right button
  3. Top-Right button

Press them in that order and the console triggers, popping open the exterior hatch on the right side of the ship. That hatch leads to the boss encounter inside.

How to repair the ferry and fix the boat

Two separate water vessels need attention before you can travel freely between districts.

Fixing the ferry

When you attempt to start the Ferry, the power blows out. Head through the gap in the wall near the phone box and break into the adjacent brick building. The Electrical Fuse (20A) is sitting on the desk inside. Return to the Ferry control cabin, place the fuse in the empty slot, and throw the main power switch. The ferry starts immediately.

Repairing the boat

The small craft in the Boat Workshop near the Silver Gazette needs a Gear Box installed into the loose Boat Engine. With the Gear Box in your inventory, interact with the engine to combine them. Pick up the repaired engine, carry it through the left door to the dock, and mount it onto the boat.

What else should you track down in Downtown?

Downtown has more going on than just these four puzzles. The area contains several vessel shard locations hidden in wind chimes, inventory pouches that expand your carry capacity, and a handful of locked doors with codes tied to items found in other districts. If you are working toward a specific ending, Downtown choices feed into later requirements, so the Silver Pines all endings guide is worth checking before you leave the area for good.
