How to Beat Ulfr Frostclaw in The Adventures of Elliot

Ulfr Frostclaw is the first real test of your blocking fundamentals in The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. You find it waiting in the Northern Caves during the Age of Reconstruction, and clearing it opens the road toward Minister Kaifried. The attack pool is small, but the boss punishes anyone who stands still or swings carelessly. Get the rhythm down and the fight clicks into place fast.

What should you bring to the Ulfr Frostclaw fight?

The Sword and Spear combination is the most reliable loadout for this encounter. The spear lets you charge in, land a hit, and pull back before the boss retaliates, while the sword covers faster follow-up strikes after a blocked attack. Bombs are a workable alternative, but they require precise timing to land before detonation, so they suit players who have already practiced the throw rhythm on regular enemies.

Before entering the Northern Caves, stop at the shop and stock up on Healing Potions. You will almost certainly take chip damage unless your blocking is excellent. The good news is that Princess Heuria accompanies you during this first encounter and can heal you when her ability is off cooldown, giving you a safety net that disappears in later fights.

What are Ulfr Frostclaw's attacks and how do you counter them?

The boss has four moves total. Learning each tell takes about thirty seconds of observation, and after that the fight becomes a loop of block, punish, and reposition.

During the first half of the fight, Ulfr Frostclaw leans almost entirely on the double claw slice. The red flash is your parry window. Block it cleanly, then land two or three sword strikes or a charged spear stab before backing off. When the boss teleports away and the three spike lines start crawling toward you, they move slowly enough that simply walking out of their path keeps you safe.

If you want to use bombs, drop one at your feet while the boss glows red so it detonates right as Ulfr arrives, or throw one just before or after the slash. The spear still produces steadier damage overall.

How do you handle the second phase at 50% health?

Around half health, Ulfr Frostclaw starts leaping and immediately conjuring icicles. These travel fast, noticeably faster than anything the boss used in the first half. Reacting after they appear is rough. The trick is that the icicles spawn in a line and narrow toward a single spot, so the moment the first one materializes, move out of the projected path rather than waiting to see where they land.

The reliable rhythm for this phase:

  • Move in after a double slash lands
  • Get two hits in with sword or a charged spear stab
  • Retreat to safe distance before the next attack
  • While Ulfr is stationary, lob a bomb at it
  • Use the princess heal and potions to stay topped up between punishes

There is no trick to tanking this phase. Expect to take some damage and manage your healing resources accordingly.

How is Ulfr Deathclaw different from Frostclaw?

Ulfr is a boss family, not a single encounter. A harder version called Ulfr Deathclaw appears much later in the game, in the Ice Ruins, and a Temple of Trials challenge run also recycles the boss type. By the time you reach Deathclaw, you will have more health, better weapons, and Faie's full ability kit, but the boss hits considerably harder and brings new moves on top of its original ones.

For the Deathclaw fight, keep Faie's Ignite applied at all times so the boss takes consistent damage even while you reposition. With a solid sword and spear setup, the fight stops being threatening quickly. Clearing it rewards you with a Quiver that raises your Arrow count by 15, plus another stack of Magicite.

The core strategy carries over from Frostclaw: respect the red-flash parry window, never stand still when spikes or icicles appear, and pick your damage windows after a blocked slash. Nail that loop once and every Ulfr variant falls into line.

Quick reference: Ulfr Frostclaw fight checklist

  • Equip Sword and Spear before entering the Northern Caves
  • Buy Healing Potions at the shop beforehand
  • Watch for the red flash and perfect-parry the double claw slice
  • Move immediately when the three spike lines appear
  • At 50% health, sidestep the icicle line as soon as the first one spawns
  • Use princess heal and potions to stay healthy between punishes
  • For Deathclaw: keep Faie's Ignite active throughout
